Do you have a link to that? I’d like to read it.
Sorry about the delay. I just now found the clipping under a pile of “things I must do last week.” It’s a wire story from The Washington Post that the Indianapolis Star ran under the headline “Head of DEA sworn in, vows to get tough on medical pot.” indystar.com

Asa Hutchinson, former congressman from Arkansas got his first fifteen minutes of fame from carrying buckets of hot tar and bags of feathers during the Clinton impeachment hearings. Now he’s the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration. The article quotes him as saying he wants to “send the right signal” on medical marijuana… “Currently, it’s a violation of federal law,” Hutchinson told reporters who had gathered at DEA headquarters in Arlington, Va., for his swearing in ceremony. “The question is how you address that from an enforcement standpoint. You’re not going to tolerate a violation of the law…”
The original article ran in the Post on Aug. 21 on Page A4.
I’m afraid I don’t know much about plodding through newspaper archives.I hope I was able to lead you to the right place. The Star’s archive is out of order at the moment, but I think I found the same article at the Post.
as soon as we americans calm down about the 11 sept attack, all the legislation will be used to its fullest extent “against” american citizens, even those having nothing to do with terrorism i am thouroughly convinced.
John Conyers said, “Past experience has taught us that today’s weapon against terrorism will be tomorrow’s weapon against law abiding Americans.” (he is a senator or representative, i found this quote at http://www.msnbc.com a week or so ago)
i truly believe that all the new bills giving the government more power to eavesdrop in our private lives (getting warrents with more ease to tap phones and perhaps even read emails, etc) will be turned to use for the “war on drugs.” why do we always have to be at war with something? do we really want to become a more socialist nation to “protect the lives of our citizens?” just my opinion…
