Looking at this [thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=18375476#post18375476) entitled “Men’s obsession with women’s breasts.” (My comment was that I didn’t care one way or the other,) What are women obsessed with, if anything? You can’t see our penises. We’re not all Mr. Universe, but neither are you all Ms. Universe. So what immediate superficial physical traits float your boat? ---

Traditionally, broad chests and tight butts. Also, “cute.” Paul McCartney, Walter Koenig, Jon Voight (okay, those are all examples from decades ago, sorry.) ---

Shoes. Seriously, I’ve had several women the first thing they check out on a guy is his shoes. If I understand them correctly, it’s not so much the style of the shoe that’s important but rather the cleanliness or newness of the shoe that impresses. Shoes aren’t actually a body part, but still. ---

Eyes. Eyes are incredibly important. Also does he have a nice smile? And I know it’s prejudiced, but I like tall guys. I have tried over the years to like shorter guys, but this is just something ingrained in me. Around 6’-6’3" is perfect. Other than that, I like a sharp-dressed man. I also like if you can see the man’s muscle outline through the shirt, be it his chest or arms. I like stubble. I hate this trait of full beards, they are nasty. Nasty and gross. I feel like there always must be food in there. Yes, I am bigoted against full beards. ---

Big tits are a dime a dozen and fake tits are pretty common but a great ass is sculpted by the hands of God himself, a gift from above. True you can have a rear end surgically enhanced too but it’s way less common and I don’t think a good synthetic booty will ever supplant a great natural one. ---

Do women in general like broad shoulders or is it more of a niche thing? I have read that is a general physical trait women like. Is it broad shoulders alone or do you also need a tapering waist? Would a broad shoulder powerlifter with a gut be a turn on or does he need the V shaped torso for the shoulders to be attractive? My understanding is a 0.75 ratio of shoulder to waist is ideal. 50" shoulders, 37" waist, etc. ---

Love broad shoulders. ( And nice hands, long noses, well-defined hollows of the throat, and great smiles.) I don’t have, like, a golden ratio of proportions that I’d have to use a tape measure and a calculator to find, though. It’s more of a “you know it when you see it” thing. Norman Reedus of the Walking Dead has nice shoulders, not due to muscles but just bone structure. ---

Not really a physical trait I suppose, but what catches my eye first and foremost is if a guy smiles - or doesn’t. I like a smiling guy. The ones that go around trying to look tough, or “strong” or whatever - that’s a turnoff to me. A nice smile - you got me. ---

Wallets, even more seriously. Years ago some of my buddies and I decided to keep track of how soon we were asked what we did for a living. Not IF we were asked. It was almost a given. It was usually within 2 minutes of introduction. Shoes were what they look at when you pick them up on a date. ---

I’ve always been attracted by tall, slender, dark-haired and a nice smile, with (nicely-kempt) beard and/or mustache but intelligence and a sense of humor are of far greater importance than mere physical traits. I married a stocky guy of medium height who grew his mustache to please me afterwards, but he sure filled the bill on primary requisites.
