That’s not necessarily just a way of assessing wallet-thickness, though. Asking a person what they do is a tried and true way of striking up a conversation, since everyone likes talking about themselves. And even if you’re, say, in the midst of a bunch of teachers (all of whom will make about the same amount), you’ll still ask what subject they teach, because it’s still a conversation starter.

Yeah, and with the shoe thing, I don’t think that is a judgement on wealth either. I think they associate clean/new shoes with good hygiene.
ETA: Speaking anecdotally of course.

Odd how the attention changes when it becomes known who does what.

It got so bad one night that my airline pilot buddy just started lying about what he did.

160+ IQ and a degree in math, physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or a PE.

No economists, art majors, or computer scientists.
And yes I can judge all this about you in about 5 minutes of conversation
Physical traits?
Between 5’5" and 6’. Over 6’ gives me a neck ache.
Why, yes, I am still single. Why do you ask?

Hmm. I like shoes (a bit, compared to lots of women, apparently), but can’t say I’ve ever really noticed any on a guy unless we were already a thing or he was dancing. Before my current husband of 8 years, I would have been very hard pressed to say that I had a “type.” Apparently I have two. But it was my husband’s gait, dress sense, and (as he approached the very first time) the little peek of unrestrained chest hair, even suited up, that got my heart racing and I mumbled to myself “Here comes trouble…” And scent, natural and choice of cologne/whatever…that’s huge.

But, ok, if I have to define a type, it’s guys built like the hot 60s actors like [Charlton Heston](http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTYxMTkxODM4Nl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzU0NDkwNA@@._V1_SX640_SY720_.jpg), [Rod Taylor](http://www.rodtaylorsite.com/images/world_chest.jpg), [Sean Connery.](http://31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lee1sg04Vc1qbcsb2.jpg)… Beefy, fuzzy, strong but not overbuilt. Facially, though, I’d have to say I go for the[black Irish](http://www.alicemarvels.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/justin.jpg)types. _swoon_

So, [Alec Baldwin](http://cdn2.thegloss.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/alec-baldwin.jpeg) would pretty much cover all bases but he annoys me for some reason, and he somehow seems like he wouldn’t smell quite right, and lately kind of looks too much like my (departed) Dad, so I think I’m not going to go there. :dubious:

Anyway, I didn’t think I liked anything particular about men except personality until I got older and I guess got a bit more testosterone. Now I have definite tastes. My husband hits 9/10 of those, so I’m a lucky gal as far as enjoying my beefcake at home. :o

Also, I’ve mostly outgrown (trained myself out of) it. but I’ve had a bad habit of glancing at crotches much like (I assume) men look for cleavage. I’m not even looking for anything in particular, [it’s just reflex](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbsmbCWUNEE). :smack:

There are so many parts of the male body that are worthy of attention . . . I’d say “all of the above.”

Height, narrow hips, NOT broad shoulders, dark hair and features, long lean legs, long fingers, flat chest, long narrow nose, hairy arms & legs . . . and oh, those eyes!

 It took all of 19 posts before we are accused of being gold-diggers.

Tell me, how often do men ask you what you do for a living? As others have said, it is a customary conversation opener. And the idea is not to hear “I make a bazillion dollars on Wall Street” but to hear “I have a steady job and know how to handle responsibility and am not a loafer or an ‘artist’ (meaning I pretend to make art)”.

I don’t wallet-check. But my dad was a lazy bum who worked as little as he could his whole life, leaving it to mom. I never want a man like that.

Around 6’-6’3" is perfect… I hate this trait of full beards, they are nasty. Nasty and gross. I feel like there always must be food in there. Yes, I am bigoted against full beards.

Unless you’re wooshing me, I take umbrage at your use of “prejudiced” and “bigoted” in this case. We simply have our preferences, physical and otherwise, in what makes an individual attractive to us, but unless you think, “A beard? Really? Dude must be stupid and a poor father figure” I doubt you’re actually prejudiced or a bigot.

Unaware of it being considered “niche” and when I mention liking shoulders (they’re one of the first things I notice, especially on all those shirtless joggers coming out of the woodwork as the mercury rises OH MY!) I’ve never been looked at askance for my strange tastes. 😛

Seems like an easy preference to parse in the context of evolutionary psychology and so forth: broad muscular shoulders are a visual indicator of physical strength, so a partner with skinny shoulders is unlikely to be able to slaughter and drag back to the cave a sufficient number of mastodon carcasses.

Also, when lying side-by-side, men have this hollow area in their shoulders to place one’s head that’s cozier and more comfy than any pillow.

Nice smile, taller, grizzled. That’s about it for now, but back as a young lass, I was also into pretty butts and forearms. These days is care more about kindness than anything else and never gave a single hoot to what he made or didn’t, much to my detriment. For example, threw over the fiancé who ended up being an attorney and CPA for the fellow who carried a tool pouch. So, meh on the stereotype of gold digger.

With broad shoulders it was my understanding that women who are looking for a fling like them but women looking for a more serious relationship considered them a turn off. The thinking was that women thought men with that trait would have good genes but be bad long term mates (due to things like infidelity).

well the test for that was pretty easy. The nanosecond my friend admitted he was an airline pilot he was set upon like bacon to hungry dogs. Sorry if this bothers you but we thought it was frickin hilarious.

We live in a society where diamond engagement rings and expensive weddings are the brass ring for a lot of young women. There’s no sense getting your hackles up over it. Drink some camomile tea while watching an episode of Bridezilla and have a laugh.

It’s all about evolution and sexuate reproduction.

Encyclopaedia Britannica says: “Mutual attraction between the sexes is an important factor in reproduction. The males and females of many animal species are similar in size and shape except for the sexual organs and secondary sexual characteristics such as the breasts of female mammals.”

Sex is a biological function that I guess can be fulfilled in various ways and if males were not attracted by females’ particular characteristics, reproduction might get in trouble.
