Sitting at a campus computer: Shirt - $30 T-shirt - $15 Jeans - $30 Socks - $3 Boxers - $5 Glasses - around $150 Bead necklace - I’ll hazard a guess of $8, being a gift from my ex-girlfriend Watch - $5, which I’ve borrowed from someone else for the day Wallet - $20, plus the $25 I have in cash and the $2 worth of free coffee cards Swiss army knife - 15 euro, so that would be about $22 CDN, right? Running total: $315 The real goldmine is my backpack, in which I have… Four CDs - $80 CD Player - $110 Frisbee - $15 Two novels - $60 Digital camera from work - $1100 Coffee mug - probably around $20, though I had to make a donation of $125 to get it Half-cup of coffee therein - $0.50 Adding in the cost of the pack ($65), the final tally comes to… **$1765.50** This, of course, doesn’t take into account the three kilos of research notes I’m currently toting around, which I’ll say cost me $7500, equivalent to two years’ tuition. ---

White coat: $40 Stethoscope (draped jauntily around neck): $120 Neck cord: $2 Pager: ??? (I sure as hell didn’t pay for it) Turkish eye, given to me by a patient’s daughter: priceless Wallet: $6 (but you’d have to go to the Porta Portese market in Rome to get it) In pockets: Clie NR-70V: $400 Pens: $5 (I buy my own–drug company pens suck these days) Books: Wash Manual, Pharmacopoeia, Critical Care manual, Sanford: I got 'em all for free, but they’d probably be around $50 Reflex hammer: $8 Free lunch coupons from the hospital cafeteria: ~$30 Total: $870. Not bad, considering half of it is the Palm. ---

This contrasts with what I’m wearing right now, about fifty dollars worth of pjs and undies. ---
