A very broad and repeatedly demonstrated as false claim. Stick to used at Gamestop and you can have the same prices. Changing your statement after the fact to just be new products from large retail chains to justify it is foolish. The simple fact is that Gamecube hardware can be found very cheaply now. You can even get the full console and controller from Gamestop for $30.
