Well, my stemware is boring and nameless but I do have some peculiar shotglasses - viewed from the top, they’re not round - the shape is actually an irregular hexagon. Like if you’d left your hexagon just sitting around and someone had left a heavy weight on top of it. Given their source they are probably valuable, but they’re difficult to drink out of even _before_ you’ve had a few shots. ---

We are lucky enough to have two sets of Waterford. My mother-in law gave us a set of 6 glasses in the [Eileen](http://www.waterford.com/shop/collection.asp?id=642&cat=R&terms=Eileen) pattern, and so we have been collecting pieces of it over the years. We have a pretty good-sized set now. Then we inherited a rather large set of glasses in the [Colleen](http://www.someonespecial.com/cgi-bin/someone/waterspec15.htm) pattern. I used to be nervous to use them, but now I figure, hey, they are meant to be used, and try not to worry about it. ---

My good glasses are from the [Ultima Thule](http://www.iittala.com/web/iittalacom.nsf/pages/D43960CAE9585AABC2256FF0004BA5A8?opendocument&lang=en) line by Iittala. My everyday glasses look vaguely similar (though not anywhere near as good); I inherited them from a friend who got them free from some grocery store. ---

I have a beautiful collection of high class plastic drinking containers from various chain restaurants, bars, and schools. Also a set of St. Louis Cardinals Budweiser pilsener glasses and a wondeful set of Wal-Mart’s finest glassware, the large AND small ones. ---

We have some basic all purpose wine and water glasses for when we (used to) have guests over. Besides those we have: 15 or so [pint glasses](http://www.flickr.com/photos/18968331@N00/281748099/) 2 [huge steins](http://static.flickr.com/82/270652139_9acb08187e.jpg?v=0) from Oktoberfest in SF last year. The O glasses are very cool! I’ve got mostly odds and ends, but I do have six of [these,](http://cgi.ebay.com/Big-Top-Peanut-Butter-Glass-Footed-tumbler_W0QQitemZ160077041447QQihZ006QQcategoryZ1010QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) plus six matching sherbets. I have my mom’s good crystal. She told us it was custom made for her by West Virginia Glass, which was owned by a friend of hers. From what I can tell, they made a pattern called Midas, which I can’t find a picutre of. The illustration on Replacements, Inc. looks right regarding the shape and gold band. I’m wondering if the Midas pattern has a shiny gold band. Mom’s stuff has matte gold. It’s very cool looking. Or maybe Mom didn’t have her facts straight. Wouldn’t be the first time. ---

Break out the banjos, kids! I use ball jars! Indestructible and I like the eclectic contrast to the four pretty Walmart glasses I use when we entertain. I also have stemware (from the dollar store) that has a thin line or red or blue through the stem. The stem itself is clear glass, but there’s a liquid-looking line of color the length of the stem. Hard to describe, but they’re pretty. I like to use charms on my stemware. ---

I collect Depression glass, or maybe at this point it’s better to say that I have a collection of depression glass. I’ve largely stop purchasing it now that I have enough to serve a dinner with it. Most of my collection is in a pattern called [pink Florentine](http://cgi.ebay.ca/Hazel-Atlas-Florentine-2-Handled-Soup-Sugar-Bowl-MINT_W0QQitemZ110084364836QQihZ001QQcategoryZ34117QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) though I have several pieces in [pink Royal Lace](http://cgi.ebay.ca/pink-depression-glass-Royal-Lace-dinner-plate_W0QQitemZ330082081189QQihZ014QQcategoryZ34119QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) as well. ---

As you said - virtually indestructible, hold a generous amount and you can replace them cheaply! VCNJ~ ---

Civilized, indeed. 😉😃 My glasses? For every day, there are some (8?) regular glasses that have blue and brown designs of fish and stuff on them. They are quite retro. And quite ugly. I make everyone use those in the hopes that they will break. This goes for some other assorted glassware that matches nothing - certainly not each other. We have the mason jar ones, but Mr2U doesn’t like them so they are currently somewhere in his garage. Don’t ask. For coffee cups, we have regular old correlle ones that came with the dishes. And some clear ones that we purchased at Big Lots. They have grapes on them. Oh - I almost forgot the good china - we got it from Marlboro. I have the 8 white and blue tin cups, and the 8 white and blue ceramic mugs. For when we get a little fancier and things have to match, we got our “good crystal” by Libby, I believe, from Big Lots too (What? I told everyone I was registering at Dollar General for our wedding!). The 8 juice galsses match the 8 highball glasses, which match the 8 water glasses! Unreal!! I have a bunch (12?) of champagne glasses that my grandmother brought over from Sweden back in the 20’s and maybe two or three matching wine glasses - the rest were broken over the years. I’ll probably get my mom’s when she passes on. ---

[/QUOTE] There is probably someone out there for whom those glasses would be a great find! Someone, somewhere, out in the great blue yonder, has a yen for all things retro-hideous or feels deeply drawn towards vintage or faux-vintage glass with what they consider to be “character.” Rather than hoping the glasses break, why don’t you get yourself a new set of glasses and sell the ones you have on Ebay? Maybe there’s some collector’s site or a local museum (if, indeed, your glasses are from before your time) that would love to have them. You’d probably make a glass enthusiast’s day, if not week! ---
