So that happened... Whedon's “history of creating toxic and hostile work environments”

Then after the resulting Frankenstein mess failed, they gave him north of fifty million more dollars to reconstruct the original mess. Which is still not at all a good movie, but is at least somewhat more cohesive than the cobbled-together monstrosity they previously released.

They made fun of the “Booyah” thing on Doom Patrol. Cyborg finds he has a dating profile and a lot of requests and scrolls through them. One particular woman goes “You’re Cyborg! Say Booyah!” He rolls his eyes and swipes left.

He asks GRID ‘Have I ever said “Boo-Yah?”’ and GRID tells him 31 times - “Well above the threshold for a catchphrase”

This is not an evident truth. His DC movies are certainly not masterworks, but they are perfectly average superhero movies, at the very least. He does have a vision, which he was able to realize, once he was allowed, and it makes for a coherent movie. He certainly is not a “no-talent hack.” He does have the ability to bring a singular vision to celluloid. Again, it might not be my favorite, but it’s not nothing.

It’s as true as any opinion about art can be.

There are both subjective and objective factors in this kind of statement. Snyder might produce movies that a person doesn’t like and might not be the best director in the world, but, objectively he has some talent and he is able to produce singular visions in a way that objectively, while he might not be the best, is not a hack. So, I would accept opinions like “He’s not a genius” or “I don’t like his movies.” But an opinion that he’s a “no talent hack” isn’t on equal footing with (“as true as”) all other opinions.

Snyder has no idea what makes these characters work, why they have been popular for so long. No one wanted a grimdark Superman or a murderous Batman. He has a flair for bringing comic book splash panels to the screen, but his films are morose slogs. I’m so glad the MCU didn’t go in that direction. 300, Watchmen, and Sucker Punch weren’t great either.

So, if I hear what you’re saying, Snyder’s work is GREAT? Because a lot of GREAT things are Abominations Unto Nuggan.

I can get with that.

Snyder’s … OK. People make out like he’s the new Uwe Boll or some shit, but actually, he’s OK. I like some of his movies, and not others.

Murderous Batman is only a tiny step from where Nolan did him before, and I.M.Batman was pretty damn popular. It’s introducing a grimdark Superman where he lost the plot.

We have already dismissed most of that so called history. I mean, other than Whedon being a normal Hollywood asshole.

What do you mean, “We”?

He has a different vision of what these characters are than you or I do. That’s not a basis for calling him a “no-talent hack.” I didn’t like 300 at all and wasn’t too thrilled with Watchmen, but their final result required talent. Even being a skilled visual presenter requires talent. He might be a very flawed director. That’s very different from being a “no-talent hack.”

I am sorry but I read their actual words. You instead have read into those words what you would like those words to mean.

In any case, Cyborg wasnt the first black DC super in film, not even the first live action one. That shows they dont know the history of black DC characters in film.

The posters in this thread.

Nothing solid except a few stories of Whedon being the normal Hollywood power asshole. Everything else is third hand or vague.

I read their words too. Everyone else in this thread read their words.

Straw poll - did anyone else in this thread share DrDeth’s misapprehension that the writer was talking about inventing the character Cyborg?

 Because the number of people who’ve seen that bomb Steel is more than the number of posters in this thread…by, like, 1.

Never mind what’s the use.

Am I not posting in this thread? What about @Banquet_Bear ? @Acsenray ?

You know, to successfully conduct argumentum ad populum, you need to be damn sure of the overwhelming populum you have…

Nuggan occasionally got one right. More than one, actually. I can get behind the condemnation of: barking dogs, oysters, shirts with 6 buttons, accordion players and the smell of beets.

Not a TMBG fan, I take it…

Did they eat a lot of beets?
