Until today, being a member of that party for over 40 years, I had never considered that “Democrat” is in any way shape or form pejorative. :eek:I still don’t.
I have been a member, and even a candidate of the party for over 40 years, and I use the term. So does the party’s own website. So, no.
No they don’t. The members of the Democratic Party are known as Democrats. There is no Democrat Party. Please let me know where else you are going to post this so I can point it out.
I am not going to let that drooling lying hypocritical moron Rush determine what I get to call MY party.
Without reading replies:
I heard somewhere that the term Obamacare may end up being a trap for the right. Health care reform will be so popular that at some point they will want to try to take credit for it among the uninformed (say, in 2040 or so, parenthetical mine) and that naming it after President Obama will be a giveaway so great that it will fail the laugh test to try to take some credit for it.
I’d say one should use whatever terminology one is inclined to use at all times, and we’ll shake out the intent from there.
Chessic has basically argued that both calling it the Democrat Party and also calling the people teabaggers are intentional efforts to annoy. Just because you’re offended by the sexual innuendo of one of those terms does not change the underlying fact that both terms are typically used to get a rise out of political opponents.
Chessic was taking delight in how some people get annoyed by the term Democrat Party, but at other times he called the term just as immature and stupid as the term teabagger. There are other similar terms that are used to annoy and are more vulgar than “teabagger,” and I await your response for how “Democ–t” (I can’t fill in the missing two letters but I’m sure you can figure it out) is less offensive than a reference to the hideous, disgusting, rare, and sinful practice of someone’s mouth touching someone else’s genitals.
Man, I feel like Western civilization collapsed a little as I wrote that last sentence.
This is exactly what I think when people derail a thread to complain about “Democrat Party”.
Quick quiz: Democrat, democratic, tea party, teabagger…which one was used by teabaggers to self-describe until it was explained to them exactly what teabagging was?
Bonus essay question: What does the underlined refer too exactly?
“Tea bag the liberal Dems before they tea bag you.”
(Was there, unlike the tea partiers (signage provided by FreeRepublic.com), a “liberal Dem” effort to mass mail tea bags to Tea partiers?
That Grandma had no clue what she was saying was the joke. That some folks completely understood the double entendre, and embraced it, ain’t a joke.
Up next - the Native American Party (1845–1855) and the American Party (1855–1860), Calling them “Know Nothings” insult or simply using their own words against them?
CMC
The standard used and the one I made reference to was “offensive, insulting, childish, and reflects poorly on the person using the term” … not just annoying.
I’ll let the experts on teabagging come forth to explain how or whether it is anything more than simple mouth on genital contact.
Whether some naive individuals opened themselves up to the insult isn’t really the issue is it?
Sort of. My posts are transparent attempts to show the hypocrisy of two people who get offended when political opponents engage in childish name-calling, but delight in political name-calling themselves.
Hahahaha, shit.
That’s one of my favorites… thanks!!
My posts in this thread were designed to suggest that on the scale of offensive name calling… teabagger and Democrat (even rat, if you will) are not even close. If yours were simply to point out a degree of hypocrisy then good on you.
re “Obamacare” …I seem to recall that Democrats were embracing the term well before the debates. I find it interesting that in this thread the focus has been on whether Obama himself is ok with it. I trust that others will be accorded that standard in the future.
As for crat vs cratic… I preferred the former so that one party isn’t given the status of being the democratic one. That was before I’d ever heard of the “rat” thing… and before I realized what a bunch of whiny babies the members of the Democrat Party can be.
