Congrats! One of th e things I did when I foudn out I was going to be a dad was (at the prompting of a friend, whose daughter was born 1 day after mine) attend “Boot Camp for New Dads” You can google for it. It’s not as bad as it sounds, it’s a bunch of dads-to-be hearing about fatherhood and babies and diaper changing, etc from a recent new father. Picked up some useful things there, including the very important advice to support your SO (and ways to do it) because it’s quite an ordeal. ---

Thanks everyone. I think this thread had more replies than any other one I started. It’s t-minus 1 hour till we head to the doc’s to have everything tested and be sure. I haven’t slept much in days…just naps here and there. So far, 3 days in, everything is great. We still don’t think we should tell our family till after the holiday, but that’s only 10 days or so. I think your name might be a bit of a problem down the track **brendon**. I mean, if you’re the **small** one, what is your little sprog going to by?? Hey, best wishes and many congrats mate. Having babies is one of the very finest things in the world. It’ll knock you for a sixer, but you’ll love every minute of the ride (except at 2.00am with a colicky whinger of course) but the rest is tres grouse!! Cheers. ---

You’ll never be able to remember what it was like to be without a kiddo when he/she is born. I can remember the excitement of finding out for sure. One moment my girlfriend was complaining that she was feeling odd, the last time she could remember feeling that way was when she was pregnant last. Then, when I went home to see my parents, I got a text early on Saturday to say she actually was :eek: Congratulations again, it actually sounds nice the way it happened for you. Not trying, but accepting it probably would. A wonderful surprise without what must be the pressure of trying and waiting. ---

Well, I’ve always heard about people trying and trying and not getting pregnant, and I wonder about it. We knew it was a possibility, but it was probably the last thing on her mind, and one of the last on mine. Luckily, we’re a lot better off than we were a year ago. She has a great job and is almost completely out of debt. She’s also almost done with a masters in criminology. I am working part-time (I’m working on going back full time) and about 20 classes away from finishing my degree (and at 5 a quarter, I’m hoping to be done before too long) - plus I’m completely out of debt and have been for about 6 months. We’re lucky that she has insurance and everything, and that we have family to help us. Of course, about 8 months ago we were worrying how we would get ourselves to the doctor because we were so short on cash and uninsured. Now that we’ve discussed it all, it seems that we aren’t too bad off. It’s something we weren’t hoping for, but I wouldn’t say that either of us is too upset either. Of course, at Thanksgiving my sister told me she’d been trying and she still wasn’t having another baby. I kind of hope she does get pregnant so that when we are with family there is someone around the same age, instead of just older kids. Oh well… Also, on a side note, we went to the doctor - just the wrong one! :smack: I forgot that today was her visit with the cardiologist (well, kinda - she had to get a 24 hr monitor) because of her heart condition. I just saw doctor wrote on the calender and assumed…maybe next week. Brendon ---

They’re a bit envious of my g/f and her eldest daughter, both of whom gave birth at the start of 06, end of 05 respectively. Its been causing a bit of friction which is a shame really. Good luck with your study too, I started a part time degree last september, having a child is a good reason to look for a bit of a better standard of living.
