For a little perspective:
To hear current commentary, you’d think the Vatican condemned the Bealtes as Satanic in 1966, and never said another thing about them until the other day.
Wrong.
The Church never took the Beatles all that seriously in 1966 (it wasn’t Catholics burning Beatle merchandise). And the Beatles have been mentioned postiviely by L’Osservatore Romano numerous times since then.
The idea that the Church has held some kind of grudge for 44 years, or that the Beatles have been under some kind of papal fatwa is ridiculous.
