I think so, too, the the evidence must be a “slam dunk” if he’s willing to share it with 535 Reps who are eager to tear it piece-by-piece for inconsistencies. The great thing about this is that Congress will not approve (because they don’t like Obama not because there’s no proof), so that when more and more pictures flood in from Syria, Republicans will have tarnished their name to Arab-Americans for generations to come. This’ll also show that Republicans are unable to come up with biparistan support for anything, which will lead to their ouster in 2014. I’m so giddy, I’m tingling.
Yeah, right. According to this link, the vast majority of Americans US should cut “foreign aid” to balance the budget. I put the following italics as if they were flashing, neon lights: Congress has defied the vast majority of Americans and increased foreign aid year after year. Given that Congressional approval is currently <goes to check> between 8 - 15%, I don’t think they’re in any position to talk about the 9% approval rating for striking Syria.
Update: Boehner will schedule a vote when Congress comes back from recess on Sept 9th.
What a narcissistic monster. At least the British had the decency to have an emergency session to vote on the matter, Boehner wants to sip on Martinis without verifying if the evidence warrants U.S military intervention. The halo of White Privilege surrounds Boehner strongly: if this man were a minority, he’d be washing dishes somewhere, I swear to God.
Is this the end of the story? I can’t imagine the members of Congress who favor some military action outweighing a coalition of isolationist Republicans, Republicans who will vote against Obama no matter what, and dovish liberals. So, seems to me the idea of an imminent strike is now DOA. And I’m not sure what could potentially revive it going forward.
Indeed. I don’t think anyone really wanted to intervene in big fashion, not right now anyway, at least without major political backup. There’s a G20 conference in Russia coming up soon. Best to see what the mood music is there about sanctions (military or otherwise) against a state that uses chemical weapons on its own people.
Funny how that changed from a 10-day timetabe to … erm … passing. Nothing at all to do with being handed his ass by the UK Parliament and being called out by Putin on his bogus warmongering bullshit.
Dis-Honesty - if you read or heard the President’s speech, HE specifically said he’d talk to them about it AFTER they come back for recess - so** your** guy is the one who isn’t in a big rush, apparently, although he DOES reserve the right to strike whenever he likes… yeah, big talk Mr. President.
Talk to Chris Matthew’s doctor about that tingle, see how it worked out for him while you’re at it.
Hand-washing… it’s not just for Roman Provincial Governors anymore.
I’m about to be overwhelmed by rebels…What could I do to pull myself out of this mess?..Oh! Starting a war with another ennemy, of course! It’s going to improve my situation tremendously.
I don’t think so.
Are you seriously suggesting that if Republicans align themselves with the American public and choose not to intervene in Syria, it will lead to Republicans being defeated in 2014?
Why is it that people who disagree with me always attack my username or infer something ridiculous (e.g. in this case, my tingling of excitement is due to my uncleanliness?). Anyway, Mr. Obama has already talked to Congressional leaders about it, it is Congress that who is clearly not rushing back home to Washington to vote on it. Shame on them - Democrats and Republicans - for not coming to vote on it; even the British who voted it down, had the decency to come back in an emergency session to vote on.
Here’s the quote in case you’re wondering what he exactly said:
So this morning, I spoke with all four congressional leaders, and they’ve agreed to schedule a debate and then a vote as soon as Congress comes back into session.
France isn’t in favor of attacking Syria because of the U.S., they’re in favor of attacking because Syria is a former French colony. Just look at France’s recent actions in Africa - all of them were in former French imperial possessions. The French still feel responsible for their old colonies. Good for them.
Really? Are you just speaking out of the real hole or are you arguing that known history is all wrong?
Since it’s founding as Syria, in the 20th century, it’s been constantly warring. Let’s see here…
1948 - Arab - Israeli War
1949 - coup d’etat by Husni Al-Za’im
1954 - another coup
1963 - yet another coup
1966 - intra-party overthrow (coup)
1967 - the Six Day War
1973 - Yom Kippur War
1976 - occupation of Lebanon
1982 - the Hama massacre
<the 90’s were relatively quiet because Syria entered negotiations with it’s neighbors as well as the US>
These are all well known FACTS (if you’re not familiar with the term the definition is: a thing that is indisputably the case). So please, I’m well aware that there is a largely popular culture online that makes “facts” up out of thin air (for example 99.9% of the facts passed as such over the internet are false), but kindly do keep it out of this thread at least. Thank you in advance.
Dude, when I think your post was rude, you know you’re in trouble.
Beyond that, you seem to have misunderstood his claim which is that the ethnic and religious factions within Syria have NOT been nearly continuously fighting for centuries as is suggested.
In fact, in all the instances you posted the only one which could remotely support your claim was the Hama massacre during the Sunni revolt against Hafez and Rifaat.
What if your neighbor was seen spanking his child in his backyard rather severely?
The little child was yelling, screaming, crying bloody murder and hollering at the top of his lungs. Yet the fathers backside was to you and you couldn’t get a good angle for a picture of the man doing the crime. You are almost certain it was him so you check it out.
You have your child go over and ask the little boy what was going on and the child said that his father beat him unmercifully for no apparent reason.
You call the cops, but they do nothing. The father finds out from the police that question him that the American neighbor on his left did this (not the Jewish neighbor on his right).
The father writes a dirty note to both neighbors threatening to take action against both of them. He will put nails in their driveway, he will spray all of their trees with harmful poisons, he will tear down their satellite antenna, he will cut off their phone, lights, gas and internet service.
What do you do?
Do you live in fear? Stay the course? Get other neighbors to help you fight back?
Draw your conclusions from the same thing President Obama and the US Congress have to face soon and very soon.
Fear is the number one enemy … always has been and always will be
President Obama is doing the right thing now it is up to the US Congress to decide if the punishment phase should go into effect.
