> Fine. I’ll say it. It’s not ok when anyone does it. Hate crimes are a crime, regardless of who commits them. Beating up 11 year old children for a differing political view is heinous. Rioting is wasteful, destructive, horrendous.
>
> Just as the disenfranchised on the right were expected to riot and cause problems [del]when[/del] if they lost, it is no surprise when the equivalent group on the left does the same things. Fewer guns maybe, and more burning cars and looting. When large groups of people feel like they don’t have a voice, sometimes things get out of hand. This is particularly true when the last 6-12 months have been spent cranking up the masses on both sides, with the most toxic election cycle in decades, amped even higher by the wonder of social media.
>
> On the other hand, jumping up and down and pointing out that “your side does it too” accomplishes what, exactly?

This. This. And this again. The same echo chamber arguments from both sides don’t solve, they just shift the group of people that don’t feel like they have a voice. Obama tapped that group in 2008, and Trump did it this year, and it happened against Hillary both times. But again, the focus of our discussions becomes “liberals” versus “conservatives”, and we end up in the same damn place. It’s the American politics version of _A Canticle for Leibowitz_

In another thread (the Bundy one IIRC), there was all sorts of crying and gnashing of teeth about how violent the right is in this country\*. Yeah, just like the deplorable gun nuts, redneck hicks, right wing bigots, some who thought he was a Kenyan Muslim did in '08 and '12 when Obama was elected?

For all the left’s talk about being tolerant, open-minded, peaceful and willing to accept the results of the election (said when they were positive it would result in a Clinton victory), it sure is nice to see the liberal meltdown-- the protesting and the absolute histrionics-- going on right now.

Irony is lost upon them.

Agreed. Whoever took his Twitter account away should have held onto it for the next 4 years. Letting Trump tweet whatever strikes his fancy is a recipe for incivility and pettiness unworthy of the Presidency.

So you think if the protesters get increasing violent and destructive that they will survive a violent backlash from the “degenerates?” Who exactly is armed and been preparing for a clash?

Because it’s taken us many years to build up our collections and practice with them to become proficient. But by all means, if you think it’ll help, go down to Wal-Mart and get yourself a $700 AR.

By your logic Bill Clinton is also a rapist. And Hilary Clinton therefore a rape apologist at best, a proponent at worst.

If you scroll down on that link, what you’ll find is the very story that ultimately turned out to be fake. The WP just added the update at the top.

Over the years there have been an enormous number of faked racist attack stories. I’m not sure if it might be more than the amount of real racist attack stories. So you need to be suspicious of all these reports when uncorroborated. (I’m curious about how the black church burning “vote Trump” one will turn out.)

You mean Hillary’s method of calling those who disagree with her and supports Trump deplorable? That certainly did not work the way she wanted.

Do you mean the media and their portrayal of Trump supporters as stupid, ignorant, racist and, in general, subhuman? How’d that work out? Not very well, now did it.

Clinton was insulting to those whose votes she needed. Her supporters were insulting to those whose votes they needed (seriously, haven’t you read any threads on Trump supporters on this board?).

I don’t like Trump. I really don’t.

Yet the constant hypocritical moralizing that the loudest liberals have been doing for years is starting to make folks like Trump look attractive to many people. And I can understand that. You know why? Because if you do the things you are supposed to do, go to work, pay taxes, take care of your family, treat people fairly and are then told that the countries problems are your fault because you are too stupid to vote for the savior of the day (Clinton this time around), and are ignorant racists and it is all your fault, well after a while it gets old.

And now, in a totally expected development, some liberals are burning shit, breaking things or throwing tantrums because those poor/stupid/violent/racists voted for Trump.

I think the Trump supporters reaction to demonstrations is hilarious. Pearl clutching, “oh good lord…protestors! In the streets!! How did this happen? They’re breaking things!! Won’t somebody think of the children??”

Please.

Most good things (civil rights, the end of the Vietnam War) of the last 60 years came about because people got fed up and took to the streets.

Property crimes should be prosecuted, absolutely. I’ve got no problem with that.

Let me see if I understand. Trump supporters are hypocritical because they think rioting is wrong. Meanwhile, the Clinton supporters, many of whom predicted violence from the right if Trump lost, are now resorting to violence because Clinton lost and it is a fine thing to do?

Is that it?

Not surprising, Trump supporters and Trump himself would have trouble accepting a Clinton win. Trump deserves credit for winning and for deviating from orthodoxy. Normally, I would appreciate a lack of convention but decorum, sensible policy, knowledge and respect are important to me. I hope Trump has the humility to get good help and listen to advice – most of his vague and shifting opinions are not policy. I do not have a problem with economic conservatism, and the people have spoken. After Brexit, one wonders if this is all it’s cracked up to be.
