So, uterus, you have foiled me again! (TMI...obviously)

Hmm, now I’m wondering how thick it is and how it gets inserted. I just had a 5-French catheter passed through my (nulliparous) cervix without any trouble.

It’s maybe 2-3 mm at it’s thickest. It’s inserted by passing the tip through the cervix and then shooting it up there with a device. Takes maybe 5 to 10 seconds with a multiparous cervix, sometimes a LOT longer with a nulliparous one. (I love those words.) I’ve seen people have a variety of reactions, from hardly anything to vasovagal responses including dizziness and vomiting, and emotional breakdowns due to past sexual trauma. I would encourage anyone getting one to load up on ibuprofen, eat a good protein-packed meal a couple hours beforehand (with the ibu), and if it gets difficult, ask the assistant to hold your hand, help you control your breathing, whatever helps you, personally. Much of the difficulties in that area occur when women are tense. Those muscles close up like a fist. Relax.

:dubious:

If your cervix has slammed shut, do you really NEED contraception?

I was on Vicodin … it still hurt like hell :frowning:

Had to get it removed after 14 months due to intolerable side effects (not the ones you normally hear about) which was surprising because I take to the pill pretty well… but everyone’s different.

Anyway, hope it works out for you IG.
