I plan to complete and mail off my special ballot today. I only found out several weeks back that I was eligible to vote. I had assumed since I haven’t been a resident for more than 20 years that I couldn’t vote but found out that had changed a few years back. When I found out went online and registered and just received my package end of last week. For mine there are are no names, you have to write in the candidate you choose. My riding is based on my last Canadian address.
I’m the same. Well, my local polling station has moved since last time around, so now it’s more of a ten-minute walk; but heck, I could use the exercise. Anyway, it shouldn’t take more than ten minutes tops, inside the station.
Best wishes to all our neighbors in the Great White North - may you vote wisely, and may Canadian democracy long thrive!
In my state, if you get a driver’s license, you get registered to vote. Any change of address at the DMV gets passed along to the Elections Office, too.
As far as too many positions to vote for, yeah, I can’t argue with that. I’m still not sure why they haven’t changed the Soil and Water Conservation District so that suburbanites don’t vote for the members of its board. I mean, it’s really something for farmers, isn’t it? Anyway, they mail ballots to everyone in this state about three weeks before the election and I can fill it out in the comfort of my own home. And then mail it back or drop it off at a convenient location. No need to run down to the precinct polling place.
I’m in the other CA (the one between Oregon and Baja) and I won’t get to vote for awhile yet but it’ll be easy. We’re mailed ballots ahead of time. We wield our pencils, seal the envelopes, and drop them off at the county office a half-hour drive sown the mountain. Or we could cruise north and mail our ballots from Vancouver BC.
I’m a Green so I know my vote won’t count for shit here, but I have a choice: vote for what I want and don’t get it, or vote for what I don’t want and DO get it. At least I’m sure my paper ballot will be counted and verified in my rural county. Non-auditable vote systems are satanic.
I wonder if most in the US will notice anything happening up north. We ignore the rest of the continent and world fairly thoroughly. What, Earth is globular, not flat?
