Bopping. 23 Female, Texas.
Bopping on the head, female, learned it in the late '70s in Wisconsin.
I can believe this - when I explained the song to my husband (who’d never heard it before and was really puzzled by the whole thing) he immediately created the “poppin’ off their heads” variant on the spot.
I never had a scansion problem with it because I pronounce it “bopp’n’em on the head.”
:D:D:D
Bopping, female, probably learned in mid-to-late 70s in Ohio, or maybe in the late 70s to early 80s in Idaho. I am currently [sub]ZOMG!!1![/sub] 40 years old, so I can’t remember which. And may I interject that my personal experience with little bunnies leads me to believe that Foo-Foo *could *have bopped, popped, and/or jizzed. Bunnies are like that.

This!
Bopping, female, 27, Canada.
Most of the time, Li’l Bunny Foo Foo did indeed bop ‘em on their heads. For a short time during dandelion season in sixth grade, however, he switched to "poppin’ off their heads". To better illustrate this fact, the singer would hold a dandelion stem below the flowerhead and pop off the “head” at the appropriate moment.
Female, 34, Midwest.
Male, bopping
This thread is hilarious if you skip the OP and just read all the answers. Lots of bopping goin’ on…

(channeling Fog Horn Leg Horn)…Thats a joke, son…
Aww.
The version I heard (and I’m surprised and delighted to hear the song was this widespread) passed down through my family (my mother’s side, FYI) was “boppin.”
Still trying to figure out what manner of beast or fiend a “goon” is, though.
Kissing? Now that just opens up a whole 'nother can of worms. If he’s just kissing them, why does he incur the wrath of the Good Fairy? Then it becomes some sort of interspecies anti-miscegenation tale vs. the simple morality story of not picking on those weaker than yourself.
