Well, first off, I want to inform anybody not in the know that there is a meeting of a chapter of Freedom from Religion Foundation ([ffrf.org](http://ffrf.org)) on that date. I’m pretty sure that I recall the location as San Francisco, with the chapter perhaps being all of Northern California. And, yes, the date was chosen on purpose. Heh. * * * I don’t know if anyone, anywhere, has ever apologized. Setting another date would not be unprecedented, even specifically for this group. I believe it was Carl Sagan who once pointed out the three options that have been used. The first I already indicated just above. The second is too insist that it \*\*would have happened \*\*on the date specified, but “we prayed very hard” and judgment was spared. The third is too insist that \*\*the date was right \*\*and that **it did happen**. If you are a skeptic, that just shows how blind you are, and woe unto you. I think that he was referring to the Witnesses, and redefinition of 1914 as the date when Christ entered a heavenly tabarnacle (to cleanse it?). Literature as recent as the’80’s still insisted that 1914 was a pivotal date in the unfolding of prophetic history. * * * - Jack\*\*\* ---

Suppose you’re a follower of Camping’s who lives in Hawaii. You wouldn’t even have to stay up late tonight to notice the absence of any reports about the earthquake on the news. And if you’re in the eastern U.S., then by the time the sun rises on Saturday, the earthquake should, according to Camping, have emptied every grave in Australia, Japan, Korea, eastern Siberia, coastal through central China, most of Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc. and be working its way west. So if you’re a believer in what Camping is pushing, you won’t have to wait until 6pm local time tomorrow to get majorly depressed over God’s failure to take you away from all this. 😃 ---

Sagan’s option 2 isn’t relevant, since none of them are praying for it not to happen, since they expect to be taken up to heaven. They are trying to convert us heathen in time. I heard an interview on the radio with the pastor of a small church in Milpitas who is taking his flock to wait outside Camping’s HQ. He claimed he will be there to support Camping’s disappointed followers, but it sounded to me that he wishes to recruit them. The Times yesterday had a story about their much snarkier coverage of a similar prediction in the 1920s. The headline back then, quoted from memory of the copy in the article was “Doomsday Preacher leaves not in a cloud of glory but in a Ford.” Probably a good description of what will happen Sunday. ---

I can’t speak for the rest of you, but I’ll be spending the 22nd hung over from my Countdown To Backpedalling party. 😃 Thing is, even if a rapture happened, I doubt you’ll see more than 2 or 3 rise up from the USA. To this day, even if they claim to be one, I’ve never met a real christian. ---

Kiritimati (Christmas) Island is part of Kiribat and lies in the Pacific Ocean. It’s not the same place as the Australian Christmas Island, which is in the Indian Ocean. They’re thousands of kilometres apart. ---
