My late husband (born 1939) was totally smitten with [Angie Dickinson in _Rio Bravo_](http://theredlist.com/media/database/muses/icon/cinematic_women/1960/angie_dickinson/16-angie-dickinson.jpeg)… in that black lace number with those l-o-o-o-o-n-g legs in black stockings. And the way she addressed John Wayne as “John T,” with a sassy tone. Every time that movie came on TV, we watched it. ---

I remember her being on _Police Woman_, though I don’t recall watching it (my dad sure did, though) and overall that she was what you’d call a household name at the time. But when I think of AD the very first thing that comes to mind is how my dad often retold the story of the time she came to his place of business and she had the worst body odor he’d ever smelled. She had BBO- beyond body odor. ---

Angie Dickinson also had a long-time “thing” (for lack of a better term) with Johnny Carson. She was one of his frequent guests, and she would brazenly flirt with him right on camera. There apparently was a lot of chemistry between them, because I think a lot of people assumed they were “seeing” each other off-camera as well. Having her drop in on Johnny Carson every so often and see her gush about his “pretty blue eyes” probably explains the fascination that certain generation of men (who were sitting home watching Carson every night) had with Dickinson…beside the [obvious assets](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jnlr8TyAZnc) of course. My personal association with Dickinson is the Brian De Palma film “Dressed to Kill”, which I happened to see as a kid and was probably scarred by. On a side note, I happened to netflix that movie not too long after not having seen it since the early 80s! OMG, not only is it BAD!! But it is to transgender people what “Cruisin’” was to gay men: insulting, viscously hateful in its portrayal, and chock full of utter bullshit passed as “that’s real life” grittiness. It’s also a “Psycho” rip-off, and (spoilers!) Angie plays the Janet Leigh role. ---

He’d use the same jokes year after year after year, including his TV “specials”. (Angie did at least 2 in the mid 60s.) Whoever was the “hot babe” of an era was plugged into generic sex symbol jokes. He would have used Angie at some point. Being used in Hope’s jokes like this tending to mark an actress as THE hot babe of the time and it would become so, even if she really wasn’t all that hot (Angie excluded, of course). ---

63 and not ever really a fan but I’d explain thusly. She was hot but regular girl hot. Also there was an indefinable something in her demeanor that communicated that she’d really know what she was doing in the bedroom, Or the kitchen, or the stairway, or the shower.
