Isn’t the Freelander the one that’s basically a Ford? Or have they Ford-ised the Disco too now? Not that it’s a bad thing in terms of reliability, though. Early Discoveries and certainly early Freelanders were utter crap.

And I don’t think I need to profess my love for the Defender. What a fantastic car. 🙂
Too bad they’re too expensive over here, and too limited for everyday use. I’d buy one in a heartbeat if I had a garage to put it in, but alas, one parking permit per apartment, so one car that has to do it all. Not surprisingly, it’s not a Defender. 🙂

We currently have an '88 Acura Legend. We’d love a Honda Civic hybrid, but we’re thinking about having another kid, and the car is just too small for 2 car seats. So, after carefully studying our car issue of Consumer Reports, we’re getting either a Volkswagen Passat, or a Honda Odyssey. It all depends on whether we decide to go the minivan route or not. We seem to be leaning towards the VW though.

I _really_ want a convertible. But it needs to have a real back seat, and cost under $30K. I think I’m limited to (i) used Saab 9-3, (ii) a used Volvo C70, or (iii) a new or used Chrysler Sebring convertible. Based on my family’s history with Chrysler products, that option is right out. The Mercedes CLK is great, but they’re still north of $35,000. Between the Volvo and the Saab, I’m leaning towards the Saab – mainly based on looks.

I’ll probably get a small truck, something along the lines of [this Isuzu](http://www.getauto.com/autolinks_cardetail.html?x_dealer_id=AABxy&vinNum=JACCG07L0P9806885).

**Juanita** , I know how you feel. But we cannot justify a third car, so I must be content to drive by that D90 and drool…

And the new Disco isn’t exactly a Ford. They had a hand in it, but it’s not as bad as we were all afraid of. A little more power than the Series IIs, but not enough so you’d notice.

Yeah **Coldie** , the Freelander is a waste of good metal. Shame. We almost bought one until we _really_ read the specs. Hell, my dog wouldn’t fit in the back!

You would love this Defender, **Coldie** , it’s almost exactly the one we talked about before, only it’s a stick. I know how you loath automatics! This thing is relatively inexpensive for the miles, but we… _just… **can’t…** _

😃

Toyota makes the Solara convertible, which is on the Camry platform, and I believe is around $25K new.

I am considering a black VW Jetta or Yellow Beetle.

(FE pulls up MS-Project file with schedule for Rest of His Life)

Looks like the next car is a Honda Pilot to replace Mrs. FE’s Blazer next year. I see that some years later I’m scheduled for a Civic Hybrid.

Why does the top of this file say “Read Only - Password Protected by Mrs. FE”?

Oh yeah, I married an engineer.
