How could I forget WALL-E? There was a scene at the end where it appears WALL-E doesn’t recognize EVE. Just typing this makes my eyes well up.

> I never used to cry at movies at all, until I got older and had kids and then my dad died, followed three years later by my mother. Now I am a sucker for anything having to do with kids and their fathers. Hell, I teared up during the end of Armageddon when the kid sees on TV the one of the crew on the tarmac when their shuttle lands and says “Look mommy, it’s the salesman,” and the mom responds “No, that’s your father.”

This was going to be my response.

All of the other crew members have family and crew running to greet them except the Dad. That scene when the little kid comes running down the tarmac. He’s never known his father and the first time he meets him is just after he’s saved the world.

And of course, when Bruce Willis has to say goodbye to his daughter on the video screen and the entire crew is watching.

I’ve cried at at lots of moves. Dozens. Too many to remember. Here are just a few that come to mind right now:

West Side Story
Field of Dreams
Schindler’s List

> Wasn’t that something? When they did that cute little montage about the couple growing older? I didn’t cry–I had a lump in my throat though, and my wife was bawling her eyes out. Talk about effective.

…and they did this right at the BEGINNING! No fair! I thought this movie was gonna be funny!

Waterworks totally at the end of **The Green Mile**. RIP, Michael.

_Millions_

“I haven’t been worried about you, you know. I’ve just been missing you.”

_Ramona and Beezus_

The scene where the dad comes home from work and Ramona presses her face against the glass; it’s a cute ritual that she and her father do to show their affection for each other. Tore me up the first time I saw it; I always wanted a daughter, but alas was never able to have kids.

Also,

When the cat dies.

I don’t know how I didn’t remember but World Trade Center. During a lot of the movie. In fact it’s a movie I will probably only see once. Hits too close to home.

Just reading the description of the funeral scene in My Girl upthread brought tears to my eyes. Haven’t seen that movie in years and forgot how gut-wrenchingly sad that scene was.

The funeral scene in Steel Magnolias gets me every time, too.

I’m menopausal so freaking everything makes me cry. Last night, it was **Miracle**. Yep, I got weepy over a movie about hockey.

One movie that I really love but can’t watch is Disney’s **Beauty and the Beast** mostly because of the scene where Belle and Beast are dancing and Angela Lansbury is singing that song. My mom and I saw that in the theater years ago. Just hearing that song will have me in tears.

**The Sixth Sense,** not the big reveal at the end but when Cole finally tells his mother what’s been going on. And then goes on to tell her why the bumblebee pendant keeps getting moved. “She said the answer is…‘every day.’”

I miss my mom.

My most blubbery moments have already been listed; _Titanic_ ( I really didn’t give two shits about Rose and the miscast De Caprio who appeared more her young nephew than a potential lover). I just lamented that nobody loved \*me \*that way, _Terms of Endearment_, where not a single soul , including the children ,was likable, but it kicked my ass anyway.

So I’d like to mention a miniseries: The Tudors. Yes, I know, historicaly incorrect and “Hollywood” stylish ( by the way, an Irish production IFRC).

The scene preceding Anne Boleyn’s execution and the execution itself were surprisingly heartbreaking. As she sits in the tower, awaiting her fate, she looks down at her father as he has been spared, walking away, looking up at her then turning away. She remembers her childhood, playing with her sister and father like a normal family, never dreaming of what her future holds. The execution itself was so well done; the executioner having distracted her so she wouldn’t see the blade coming, gazing at birds in the distance. The moment of decapitation clear, yet not graphic. So effective.

Most recently, _127 Hours_, the part where he gets free, drinks from a puddle, and staggers off in search of help.

_The North Face_ was pretty intense too. The fact that I could not speak German did not matter.

Best tearjerker ever is that Spike Lee Nike commercial with that girl on the school bus from the early 90’s. Why did that make me cry? I was never a teenage girl. I never played basketball. Why do I care so much?

Aside from the opening scene in UP, the other part that makes me tear up is when Russell is talking about his father, and that his stepmother discourages him from calling him. So sad. ☹

Also, the scene in Tokyo Godfathers where we see what Miyuki did that makes her believe she can never return home. How terribly lonely and unstable the poor kid must have been to react that way.

“8 Seconds”

My wife took me to the movies and only told me the general premise of the movie. I thought I was going to a stupid cowboy movie. I was sucker-punched right in the tear ducts when that damn bull speared him. Only movie I cried at in the theater.

There are a bunch more that I have teared up to at home though…

It was surprising how emotional I got watching 50 Cent’s _Get Rich or Die Trying_. It was the scene that juxtaposed his getting shot and taken to the ER with his mother giving birth to him during the 4th of July fireworks. It’s still hard to understand what that scene does to me.

**Up** –I saw it just after my Mom died.

**Grave Of The Fireflies** –I will never watch this film again. It hurts too much.
Finally [Tarantula](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarantula_%28film%29), an obscure giant monster film from the Atomic Fifties. A baby was abandoned in the streets, during a panic scene, and I cried for the kid. I was 10.
