No kidding. Fun fact: They packaged the original release of that movie with My Neighbor Totoro because it was too damned depressing to sell on its own.
Imagine. I was so wrapped up in enjoying Lennon’s music and stories that I wasn’t thinking ahead to what was going to happen when the chronology reached the end of 1980. The murder hit me like a sledgehammer.
Anything with animals. Anything.
Homeward Bound, The Incredible Journey -
when the animals come bounding out of the woods, one by one, and they wait and wait for the old dog…and there he is!!! - OMG I’m tearing up right this minute.
I assume you saw my post. Thank you for agreeing.
Oh God, yes.
Oh yeah.
It took me about a year to get over that movie (no exaggeration).
How about “Jerry Maguire”?
“Up” - we just watched it recently, and oh yeah, I was sniffling a bit.
More than I care to admit to. Taking a quick peek at my movie collection:
Big Fish- the funeral scene where all the sideshow people show up
Secondhand Lions- I was yelling “Get out of the car, kid!” at the screen, good thing I was watching at home.
Toy Story 3- Andy gives his toys away.
Casablanca- “If that plane leaves the ground and you’re not with him, you’ll regret it…”
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King- “My friends, you bow to no one!”
Frequency- When the son talks to his dad through the radio the day after the dad was supposed to die in the fire. I haven’t been able to watch this part since my dad passed away.
I’m sure there’s more, but that’s the only shelf I can see from here.
a lot of those mentioned and also Apollo 13
when the parachutes open and you know they made it through the atmosphere and those goobers at mission control go nuts.
every single time I see it I am so relieved they made it.
I watch “iron giant” every year so i can have a good cry. The end of the sixth sense floored me too. I was just bawling. Looking back I don’t know why I didn’t see it coming.
For me there are two reliables:
“Four Weddings and a Funeral” - John Hannah’s rendition of Auden’s poem Funeral Blues gets me every time.
“Red Dog” - to see the ending is to weep, I defy anyone not to.
Same movie, but for some reason my moment is when Archie Graham crosses the line and sacrifices baseball to choose doctoring…
The other guarantees:
“George Bailey–the richest man in town!”
“I’ll… be… right… here.”
To me it’s when Mrs Lovell got a moment of lucidity, “Don’t worry, if they could get a washing machine to fly, my Jimmy could land it.”
Yeah well I remember when I stopped wanting to play catch with my dad and I lost him when I was 22. It gets me every time. But the Archie Graham part works too.
Good grief, reading that made me all teary.
So so so this. My friends make fun of me all the time.
I cry at the end of The Dirty Dozen, Trini Lopez does it to me every time.
Red Dog is a great choice. I’m a sucker for good dog movies and this one hits all the right points. The characterisations of the mine workers are hilarious as well.
Iron Giant is a fine choice as well: “Superman…” Dammit, its only a drawing, its only a drawing.
Little Women
Toy Story 3
Marley & Me
Just watched *The Incredibles *tonight on ABC Family. As always, it made me a bit misty. Damn allergies!!
