Interesting, I didn’t know the lettuce thing was nationwide/international. Around here about a year ago, Harris Teeter stopped stocking non-organic red and green loose leaf lettuce (though Publix still has it) and the one time I asked a store employee about it they couldn’t tell me why.

Out here it seems to be very localized. San Jose may be paying through the nose, but I just bought a head of iceberg for $1.89. It wasn’t as tight and large as normal, but not too bad. Seems the damage in the Central Valley is an insect problem, not Covid-related issues.

Our grocery store has zero Sriracha sauce. Hung Foy suspended production at some point due to a chili pepper shortage due to weather conditions.

ETA: it was weird walking through the grocery store and not being able to find a single bottle of the stuff. I checked the hot sauce aisle, then seafood area, then international foods. None.

There has been, and still is, such a huge demand for bacon that I think there is a big surplus of the rest of the pig, which could account for lower pork prices.

Anyone else seeing a shortage of fresh eggs in supermarkets? The display at Safeway was mostly bare, with only a couple dozen packages of twelve or eighteen eggs. And normally Costco has a pallet stacked with packages of two dozen eggs but this was empty today.

Last time I went to Costco (within the last few days), they had signs up that they were totally out of eggs. My last couple of visits to Winco showed low stock and high prices (nearly $5/dozen for large? Really?).

I’m newly back to this board (I actually paused before the pandemic hit) so this sub-forum is new to me.
Anyway, “What shortages are you personally seeing?” Well, I’m the charge nurse of an ICU, and now in January of 2013, I’m seeing some worrisome shit. Huge shortage of fentanyl. Fentanyl is a very strong opioid if don’t know, but more importantly it’s not really used all that much, or at least shouldn’t be, unless the patient is intubated. If they’re intubated, you probably want Fentanyl.
Now, I don’t know everything about the production of this drug and the particulars of supply and demand here, but it does make me worry when a drug I commonly use for patients on the ventilator is in short supply. It very well could be that more people are sick enough to be intubated. Not exactly the height of COVID levels, but still very worrisome.

I’m sure you know more than I do about the subject, but I’d expect all the distress over it being used for recreational purposes is having some effect. My husband reports that he was given fentanyl by paramedics back in 2019 when he broke his leg at work, BTW.

I haven’t had to buy any myself, but from what I’ve seen on our local reddit group, around here, the big shortage is cold and flu meds, and children’s Tylenol and ibuprofen. Every day someone posts asking if anyone knows where to get some, with pictures of mostly empty shelves.

What’s the difference between children’s Tylenol and regular Tylenol? My possibly ignorant googling says that they are identical. I could definitely be missing something though. Amazon seems to have it with one day Prime delivery.
Is there anything that isn’t on the shelf that also can’t be ordered online?
