No shit. This is a perfect example of the phrase Ugly American.
In my travels I’ve found the vast majority of people can separate the government from the individual citizen, but I really wish assholes like Asuka would just shut the fuck up and stop reinforcing the image that all Americans are self-center blowhard assholes.

It all depends on when America ceased existing. If it was never founded, we might be complaining about all the [neo-Mississippians](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mississippian_culture) (I’m assuming some bounceback from initial dark ages, there). If it did exist for a while, but [broke up](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nine_Nations_of_North_America) or something at the turn of the 20th C., and wasn’t a significant international player from then on, we’d likely be complaining about The British Empire, United Europe, The Deutsches Kaiserreich, or the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere, depending on how things shook out.
_Not_ Russia or China, neither of those would be where they are today without US help to themselves and hindrance of their direct regional opponents earlier in the 20th C., IMO.
