# So, what're YOU doin' this Veterans Day?

Thanks for using Veteran’s Day to maintain the stereotype that everyone in uniform is a moron.

I didn’t even realize yesterday was Veteran’s Day until it was almost over.

Stupid being in Iraq. Grumble, grumble.

Oddly enough, I’m writing a midterm essay on the commemoration of war and victory in ancient Greece.

My grandfather (WWII vet, served at the Battle of the Bulge, purple heart, bronze star, et. al.) passed away this September. I got called on last Thursday to read aloud from the first part of Pericles’ Funeral Oration and lost it in the middle of class.

“I shall begin with our ancestors: it is both just and proper that they should have the honor of the first mention on an occasion such as the present. They dwelt in the country without break in the succession from generation to generation, and handed it down free to the present time by their valor”.
