Shoot, when I was a little girl and borrowed a fancy party dress from my cousin to be in a wedding in, my mom made me keep it in a box in tissue paper at all times when it was not actually on my body for alterations or at the wedding itself. (And no trying it on at random times to play princess in, either!) A fancy, expensive, **borrowed** outfit is not something to be treated casually, IMMO (In My Mother’s Opinion). The RNC is having to pay lawyers’ salaries to get this mess sorted out just so they won’t be breaking campaign finance laws. ISTM that somebody somewhere was clearly being way too casual, and/or disorganized, and/or negligent, about this. Either Palin should have been more careful and systematic with the borrowed clothes, or the RNC should have kept better records about them. ---

I’m loving this thread. Sam Stone makes me giggle. Bytheway, maybe this is or isn’t the thread to ask this … cuz gosh knows I wouldn’t want to imply anything inappropriate about the Palin’s family values BUT … have Bristol and Fucking Redneck set a date yet? ---

And here it is merely a political ploy. If Palin is the one who reined this asshole in, good for her. I doubt there’ll be a wedding. I pity Bristol–she’s the adult in this and will carry all the freight. I just hope that when they get back to AK, she can stop being her mother’s au pair. Nothing here has changed my mind about Palin–I think she was on the make and like someone said upthread, got caught with her hand in the cookie jar. There was no reason to take those clothes back to AK, but then, there was no reason to spend that much on the clothes in the first place. So much for prudent conservative spending in a fishbowl. It’s just another example of “I’ve got mine”–the meme of the Rep party. ---

The imagery of Palin rooting around for the missing items is making me think about a teenage girl who’s been caught shoplifting and has to account for all the stolen merchandise in her closet. I’m picturing her sitting on her knees amist a pile of clothes, her father standing behind her with his arms folded, telling her to quit crying and just find the damn underwear already. “I’M TRYING TO, DADDY! GAWD, GET OFF MY BACK ALREADY! I HATE YOU! I HATE EVERYTHING!!!” she screams, throwing a shoe angrily across the room. If the plan from the get-go had been that the clothes would be given away, this would not be happening. At all. It’s funny but it’s also kind of sad. ---

Any clothes that end up at a charity consignment will just be bought back by SP at firesale prices! I think it has been Piper, and Willow pulling au pair duty, Bristol was getting fitted for maternity clothes on the campaign aerobus and training the younger au pairs, but I think she was mostly gone fromt he spotlight. But who cares about the child care, big families all pitch in, ever heard of the Duggers and their 18 buddies? ---

What I’m kind of chuckling about is how Obama has been spending the last week setting up his administration and the “experience” team of McCain/Palin can’t manage to sort through a wardrobe and set up a charity auction. Is this how these two jokers were planning to run our country? I also can’t help but be reminded of the stereotypical dinner date where the woman orders the Surf & Turf just because it’s the most expensive dish on the menu, and she ain’t payin’. ---

As far as I can tell, there doesn’t appear to be a Liberal dog in this fight. It’s one subset of Republicans rolling & scratching in the mud with another subset of Republicans, and scrambling to get to the Ministry of Propaganda (oops, Fox News) with the latest dirt. It just makes me want to pop some popcorn. ---

I do not care about the clothes. What bothers me is she thinks god will help her get to the white house. The self importance of such a statement is shuddering. She really thinks some second rate bimbo local politician is gods chosen leader of the free world. ---
