They were supposed to overrun the Eastern Seaboard, but I haven’t seen a one. Where are the little buggers?

We have em here. Its kinda neat. My friend had 100s of the carapaces in his yard. You can hear the sound of them in the distance, sounds kinda like a space ship in an old movie.

I’m just at the edge of the emergence area marked on most maps, but haven’t seen a one, so I assume I’m just outside the brood’s zone. Too bad, as I’m fond of the silly things.

We had bunches of 'em in our yard as evidenced by the wings and carcasses thither and yon plus the weird, perfectly round holes in the yard all over the place. Tho by now they’re pretty much gone.

They’re still out in central Virginia, although I think there are less of them than a few weeks ago. They were so noisy and numerous I didn’t even want to hang out in my yard.

I was pleasantly surprised to encounter some cicadas on a hike in the Santa Cruz mountains last weekend. There wasn’t a huge horde of them, but there were sections of the trail that were pretty noisy.

Missed the edit window: does anyone still have a [lucky cicada keychain](http://www.cicadamania.com/keychain.html)? I got one from Archie McPhee years ago, but it got lost or thrown away in a move. Not only did it make the most annoying sound (like a real cicada), but the eyes lit up when you squeezed the button.

I, for one, am glad not to be welcoming our insect overlords.
I was warned by the neighbors that it was really bad last time, and I should expect cicada carnage. I haven’t even heard _one_ yet. There were more in my neighborhood _last_ year. I’m glad, because I’m not a big fan of bugs, but I’m a little confused.

Just outside NYC. We’ve gotten other waves of cicadas, but so far this year, we haven’t gotten this brood. No complaints, but I won’t be surprised if they end up hear in a few weeks…

An interesting thing I have found, when there are hundreds of them they smell like wet dogs. Not sure if that’s the live or dead ones I’m smelling.

Oh yeah! I wish I still had my cicada key chain with the glowy eyes. It used to go off accidentally in stores a lot, and fill random strangers with insane hate.
We haven’t seen any cicadas at all in my neck of northern VA, which is odd. I was expecting it to be like 2004, when the last brood hit. And yes, they did have a distinctive smell. I think it was the dead ones.

Apparently Brood II is very widespread and has large gaps, one of which is most of Maryland. [Here](http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/files/2013/05/cicada_coverage_map.jpg) is the coverage map as of May 20.

I work in central NJ (Bridgewater) and they’re plentiful around here. When I go in the building in the morning they’re like cooing or purring and when I come out in the afternoon they’re at full clackity screech.
It’s quiet just down the road from my office and then there’s another zone that I encounter as I get on the highway.
