I’m a Temp. I’m lucky the job’s still ongoing, forget about a bonus.
I have gotten some nice bonuses in the past though.

I have gotten some nice bonuses in the past though.
Most employees get a yearly bonus that is a related to corporate and local unit performance. It is a function of my gross salary and a few multipliers, like job ranking, production levels, and so on. It should be good but we will take a big hit on the corporate safety component due to refinery fire in California. It will show up in March.
Government employee here so no bonus. However, we are required to work on holidays throughout the year without overtime. So per the contract we get paid holiday pay every year. It’s calculated as a certain number of days pay straight time to make up for working holidays. We get it right before thanksgiving.
My girlfriend gets a yearly bonus but it’s paid in February for some reason.
My current employer gives Christmas bonuses. But I never remember they do, until I get the envelope.
I work in education, and no Christmas (or year end) bonus. It’s my impression this is standard in my field. In the past few years, they have introduced a spot bonus to recognize work related to extra projects, which is greatly appreciated, but still more of a token amount compared to similar work in the private sector (from what I have heard). I still get TONS of paid time off, which IMO offsets the lack of bonuses.
Another public sector worker here. No bonus expected. But this year I didn’t even get a card from a student. That may be a first.
Last year I got a Christmas/year end bonus that was about 15% of my salary. It was my first year working in management. This year I don’t think we’re getting bonuses, but I guess there’s a few days left to find out. As an hourly worker in previous years at the same company, I did not get a bonus.
About ten years ago I remember getting a Christmas bonus at Starbucks, but I don’t remember exactly how much. A few hundred, I think.
I don’t get cards from my patients anymore either!
I work full time at a non-profit. We get small bonuses in December, funded by an anonymous donor who wants to acknowledge the work we do. The only year I can think of that we didn’t get them was 2008, when the economy tanked, our donations tanked, and we were grateful no one ended up laid off.
So then, were you my employee you’d turn down your end-of-year bonus?:dubious:
I’ve often gotten the impression my company officials would lobby for slavery if they thought they could get away with it. They clearly hold us in complete contempt. At one point, on one project, wages were lowered from fifteen an hour to ten. When work slowed to a complete crawl, they reluctantly brought them back to fifteen again. Fucking idiots.
Same here but civil service does had other benefits.
At my last two jobs designing cell phones, we got end of year bonuses tied to earnings. I was there for some of the booming markets, and had my share of five figure bonuses. Fun times.
I’m now at a tiny startup company as of a few months ago. I didn’t expect, or get, a bonus this year. I think when the company starts making money, it’ll be different.
Self-employed here. No bonus. No health insurance. No sick days. No holidays. No minimum wage. No “personal” days. No paid overtime, etc., etc., etc.
But the best thing is: No asshole boss who rakes in the profits, while the rest of us make him rich at our expense.
Once, when I was working for a law firm. Since then, never.
When times were better, our company gave holiday bonuses. Nothing in the last three years, though. Heck, 25% of our workforce was laid off last year.
I always give a little present to my employees at Christmas, but not in cash.
Cash bonuses are in May and October, when we know how profitable the tax seasons were. December is the absolute low-point of cash for my company… plus, if you’re going to leave, I don’t want you waiting until after you get a Christmas bonus. Leave in June or November so we have time to replace you.
I haven’t been an employee for very much of my life, but none of those positions ever paid a Christmas bonus.
No bonus, but I’d rather get a raise. So far those have been forthcoming.
Are you sure about that?
Not that odd. My employment contract specifies an annual bonus based on the performance of the company combined with my specific performance. It used to be paid in Q2, now it gets paid around christmas due to a change in our financial year reporting. So I don’t call it a christmas bonus.
…we do also get a christmas bonus, which is typically a nice gift item.
