I live near ground zero, crazy stuff for Virginia. I had experienced a few minor earthquakes before here, many years apart, but nothing like this. It started off like deep thunder, then things started vibrating and shelves were swaying, went on for probably 20 seconds or more. We went outside and stayed out for a long time. There were a couple dozen aftershocks, it sounded like thunder underground along with the ground vibrating. I could actually point to where I heard/felt it, and that was exactly where the epicenter was, about 3.7 miles underground.
Various buildings lost brickwork, lots of stuff spilled off shelves and out of cabinets. There was stuff on the floor in about every room of my house, a good bit of broken glass to clean up. But couldn’t see anything structural.
