Nonsense; the “liberal media” is simply a catch phrase spread by the Right. What we have is a corporate media, and corporations are anything but liberal.
That bit was sorta tongue in cheek.
So it’s not a serious question? Ahmadinejad never wanted to decimate his country.
You make some funny threads. This isn’t one.
It doesn’t matter which of the four bigots wins. Those who actually hold power in Iran have made sure of that:
Actually, it does matter. Not as much as we’d like, and not as much as it should, but it does make some difference. Khatami and Ahmedinejad have not done the same things.
You’re surrounded by it. It’s the same media that informs and misinforms your idiot President and his idiot advisers, judging by this piece of nonsense uttered by Obama: VOANEWS.COM.
Apart from your pointless political snipe, what about that was nonsense?
Actually, it does matter. Not as much as we’d like, and not as much as it should, but it does make some difference. Khatami and Ahmedinejad have not done the same things.
Read this essay a couple of months ago, “Latter-day Sultan”, in which the iranian dissident Akbar Ganji argues that Khatami and Ahmedinejad actually don’t really differ all that much from each other. He further argues that Ahmadinejad isn’t the real problem.
IMHO some interesting stuff in there about Khamenei’s part in the election process and the government.
The others above me are generally correct, he’s basically a very mild reformer. Not even a reformer of Iran as a whole, but more of what Ahmadinejad has done recently, I think this is more important then it first appears. It allows a reset of all the harsh rhetoric that took place during the Ahmadinejad-Bush years.
There is also the argument the current president has been slowly seizing power from the Supreme leader, which could result in more power for the elected president. I don’t believe that Iranian politics is monolithic and controlled as it at first appears so this could affect matters.
And thirdly, my favoured position- it doesn’t matter in the slightest who Moussavi is or what he believes. The people that are supporting him now have made him a symbol against the establishment, and he is their guy. And if they manage to get him into some form of power that is a major blow against the establishment who thought they alone could decide.
So who is Hossein Moussavi? He’s the guy that those on top don’t want in power. And that means everything.

I like it when I agree with Der Trihs the entire idea of a liberal media is a big load of bullshit.
