The republican party wants their morality to be the ruling morality, and, if at all possible enshrined in the law.
They can dress it up any way they like but it comes down to trying to influence others to live by their morality.
Of course it’s offensive to thinking people who can see it for what it is. But I can cut them some slack if only because it must be hard to have your beliefs, for so long enshrined as the ‘go to’ position, fall from that place to one of disfavour for the majority. That’s really gotta sting, after centuries of being so admired, I should think.
Now they have turned themselves into the party of ‘no’. No way, no how. They would rather grind government to a halt than acknowledge that the time for their moral position being supreme has passed. They are now busy trying to convince everyone that they can turn back time.
Back to less contraception, back to prayer in school, back to Christianity being ‘the’ dictator of morality for the state. Back to DADT, back to homosexuality being in the closet, etc, etc.
I suspect even their target audience, at some level, understand you really can’t go back. Those days are not coming back around, it is no longer a ‘Christian’ nation. And saying ‘My God commands I obey this law or that’, isn’t going to cut it, like it’s still the 17th century.
