No, these soldiers died fighting _against_ the United States government, and a core principle of it’s constitution, to defend their right to OWN other human beings. Their way of life was being lost because they were being divested of their large inventory of humans as property. Everything else, EVERYTHING else is revisionism, straight up. I challenge you to uncover a single dedication speech, from the enshrinement of one of these statues, that DOESN’T invoke, first and foremost, Christianity and the Bible as endorsing the white man having dominion over the black man. None of this revisionist claptrap. Read it for yourself. It’s straight up glorification of racism, bigotry and hate. Just because you don’t know the actual history, of what was said that day, you shouldn’t assume others don’t and will just swallow whatever spin you try to put on it. They were so proud of their hateful rhetoric, delivered to cheering crowds, they published it in papers and saved it for posterity. Lucky us. The words they actually spoke clearly show what _their_ intent was, YOUR spin notwithstanding. ---

actually if the history channel is correct according to the history minute which was shown in-between shows and had sam waterson from law and order telling the story Dixie was written almost 10-20 years before the civil war by a northerner that had never been there for a play that became popular and who later disowned the song by saying he wished never wrote the goddamed thing … ---

I am saying that your fond memories do not override the not so fond memories of others. I am sure that Daniel Holtzclaw has fond memories of the women that he raped. Do you seriously fault the women that he raped for not wanting to go through that experience again? Just because the oppressor enjoys it, doesn’t mean that the oppressed does. If your fond memories are of running in the sun and playing in the water hole, that’s fine. If your fond memories are running in the sun, and playing in the water hole, and they are fond because they do not contain any minorities in those memories, then that’s not quite so fine. If your fond memory is of going to a white school, and you are nostalgic for the times when you could go to a white only school, or eat your lunch without any minorities about, then those fond memories of your are horrors for others. This is like complaining that just because a rape victim doesn’t have fond memories of being raped, then the rapist isn’t allowed to have fond memories of it. ---
