Spotted in my office this afternoon, a Director’s Personal Assistant go to the communal fruit box, glance around furtively and put a hand of bananas in her handbag. I don’t know whether to laugh or to be incredibly embarrassed for her. ---

Hehehehe! When they were $14.99/kg last year one of my friends from the US said that she’d come and visit me and bodily smuggle in “2 bananas because she couldn’t carry on her person any more than that”. I laughed for about 2 weeks on that one. ---

It’s great - we all do long hours and the food choices around here in terms of supermarkets/cafes is sadly quite limited (and expensive!), so they purchase fruit for us. ---

[/QUOTE] Sounds like the fruit was provided for the purpose of snacking on the premises, rather than to save employees money on their weekly shopping. It’s a grey area, for sure, but this is the same as the little sachets of sugar in restaurants; they’re provided free of charge to sweeten my drinks, but if I upend the whole box into my bag and take them home, it’s kinda wrong. ---
