So You Don't Think Grocery Workers Deserve Protection....

You’ve had ample opportunity to apologize for your tone and/or wording. You’ve had ample opportunity to admit that you are a fucking idiot for thinking that face mask = medical-grade air filtering system capable of blocking viral particle.

Until you do these basic things, I’m not going to study a single thing you say to me or anyone else.

Wow, wtf, Luci?

An excellent idea!

Wow, I didn’t think **elucidator ** was like that.

When someone doesnt have the balls to admit they were wrong and apologize. It makes it hard to have and maintain a serious relationship. At least you have you.

Yes

I worked grocery, oh, like 33 years ago. But it’s no different. Do you know how dirty those places are to begin with? The shelves towards the back are always dirty, same with storage. Add in a deadly pandemic virus and these people are surrounded by dirt and germs of all kinds all shift. From dust to death.

I think luci may have been more on the side of “if there’s limited masks, then they should only go to hospitals*” kind of thing. We ALL need the fucking masks. I can’t stand them. I don’t want to wear mine. And right now I’d like a case of them to help hand out anywhere, especially in grocery lines.

  • not a quote from him

This…

I’m not entirely sure what the screeching is about. Are y’all saying grocery store workers should get N-95 masks before medical workers? 'cause that’s complete bullshit. When store clerks have to shove a tube down a patients throat and take the bodily fluids in the face because that’s what happens when you’re carefully leaning over your patient then they get equal priority to health care workers. Or when they’re taking vital signs from a person that’s hacking crap all over them, then they get equal priority.

But if we’re talking regular surgical masks or procedure masks then they’re not going to protect the clerk anyway. They only protect the customers from the clerk’s germs. It would be vastly better to require stores to put shields between the check-outs and the customers, limit the number of customers in the store at any given time, pass out rudimentary masks to the customers so they can hack their germs into them, and pay their employees a fucking living wage.

Masks (unless they’re N-95) don’t protect you from other people’s germs, they protect other people from your germs. Everyone should wear one when they go out.

Non-N95 masks won’t prevent you from getting infected, but they can (depending on what kind of mask you’re talking about) reduce a person’s viral load. Viral load is correlated with the severity of illness.

Yes. We should.

He was also pushing for fake vaccines to be distributed (as a counter to the “overreaction”).

A lot of this stuff is additive. No one thing is going to provide complete protection to “essential personnel”, but all of it helps.

  • Cleaning the store helps
  • Washing hands helps
  • Sneezeguards (which my store has) between cashiers and customers helps
  • Masks help.

All of that won’t completely protect anyone, but it does reduce the chances for transmission and reduces how much virus is transmitted. Those are good things.

But when it comes to eludicator shit like post #40 is why I don’t think post #33 is sarcasm. I think the boy is off his rocker or drunkposting or having a mental problem. That’s just…wrong.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. And every customer should have to wear one to enter the store. No mask, no shop. That would do more to protect the workers than the workers wearing masks. Combine that with shields at the check-outs, handwashing stations, antiseptic wipes and gloves for workers which are all things that the businesses should be providing.
Surgical and procedure masks are worn so the health care worker doesn’t snort germs on to a vulnerable patient.

According to the link I provided upthread, not all facial coverings reduce viral load the same. So front line workers really need to have their own masks so that they don’t have to suffer from the vagaries of customers’ jerry-rigged masks.

I’m down with that.

No shirt no shoes no mask no service.

Wait, what? I’d caught him being dumb about COVID-`9 , like he was spouting off without knowing the information, and then being too stubborn to apologize. I saw him being pedantic about death numbers in a way that was suggestive of ignoring the threat (and made an appropriate non-pit response). But I’d never once seen him jump completely into Troofer land, just ignorance land.

Because that’s full on “it’s a conspiracy” type thinking. It’s ignoring that people are concerned about it for a reason. That’s like being part of QAnon, thinking that everyone’s lying about it.

Here he’s just not reading the room, not realizing that, if everyone else agrees with the Pitting, and he can’t see why, he should realize he doesn’t get it, and come in humbly asking for more info, not acting like he’s superior and knows there’s nothing wrong with what he said. (I admit I at first didn’t get it, but I read on and understood that I’d missed a bit of context.)

Still, that’s just a normal overinflated ego. Dumb and possibly dangerous, but it wouldn’t make him a bad person. But wanting to lie to people because the virus isn’t really all that bad? That’s Troofer territory. We banned at least two of those as soon as they started the spin after COVID-19.

Trooferism and the goal of this board are not compatible.

The Grocery store workers are getting cloth masks, not N95 masks. In many cases, they are getting home made donated cloth masks.

Mind you those cloth masks protect others more than the workers, but in many areas- the customers are also being required to wear masks.

Even the N95 masks are not sure armor, mind you.

Everybody, but not the grocery workers?

What on earth sense does that make?

In DC Mayor Bowser has finally mandated that customers will not be allowed in stores without a mask.

Dude, you have an almost Trumpian phobia of saying “OK, I made a mistake”, don’t you?
