Look, I’m as conservative as they get, and even _I_ know that Ann Coulter is a parody artist. Sure, I agree with her politics, but her articles and polemics are definitely tongue in cheek. She’s trying to give the outrage-industry something new to be outraged about. And so many of them fall for it! ---

The world needs a liberal left-leaning counterpoint to Ms Ann. For a recognizable but not-quite-there semblance of this, I recommend [Gene Lyons of the Arkansas Times](http://www.arktimes.com/arkansas/columns/Section?oid=868617) (scroll down a ways to find Lyons columns; [here’s a recent sample](http://www.arktimes.com/arkansas/far-right-hysteria/Content?oid=3334700)). If you want a really radical leftist columnist, that’s Ted Rall, who’s been calling for Obama to be impeached, or to resign, for years already, because he’s not liberal or progressive enough. She’s going for P. J. O’Rourke style of cheerily unfair left-baiting outrage, but without his wit, skill, or gonzo charm, {I despise P.J.'s politics, but the man could write like a dream}. The end result is just leaden and stupid. ---

^ umm, nah. I’d take baseball over soccer but that’s not a recommendation. Cricket or Aussie Rules work for me. Tie me to the chair I could watch basketball or gridiron without struggling too much. Maybe even ice hockey. baseball is on the low end of the threshold but still better than soccer. Soccer is about level with synchronised swimming or curling or the world crochet championships. ---
