Sending someone to sit for a while in the penalty box. (At least in hockey)

Yes, it was taken from ice hockey. 10 minutes off (of an 80 minute game), the team plays short for that time. Sent off - the remainder of the game off and a subsequent date with the judiciary to decide any further penalties.
