Serious business here, fellas. I’d always done sock-sock-shoe-shoe without really thinking about it, just because it seemed right: socks go on before shoes. Then one day I tried sock-shoe-sock-shoe just for kicks . . . what a revelation! Because you don’t have to do the leg-crossing dance, it’s both quicker and easier. You? ---

I don’t put my shoes on until I’m leaving the house. Obviously sock sock. And then shoe shoe. ---

I put on my socks before my pants. That should answer the question. Of course, it’s the wrong question. What we really need to know is, left sock first or right? 🙂 For me, it’s left sock first. Used to be right, but many years ago I decided, just for the hell of it, I’ll now start off with the left and I still do. Maybe it’s time to change again. ---

Wow, I guess this is one of the eternal, irrevocable disconnects between shoes-in-the-house people and shoes-off people. I read this and wondered why I would go down three flights of steps to the front door to get to my shoes while I’m still wearing only one sock. 🙂 ---

Just about the last thing I do before leaving is put on my shoes, so there will be an hour or more between sock-sock and shoe-shoe. ---

I save probably between one and two seconds each time. If anything, however, it would decrease your life expectancy, as that’s 2 seconds of aerobic exercise you’re no longer getting. Since this seems pretty unanimous in favor of sock-sock so far, I’d like to issue a challenge: try it the other way next time you put on your shoes, and keep an open mind. ---

sock-shoe, sock-shoe Bad knees, have to wrestle the foot into place. So I want to be done with one foot before I wrestle the other one. In my younger days, I had no preference. I would blithely switch methods. Sometimes I would stand, besocked, still deciding which shoes to wear. Happy times. ---

Wander around the house for between 5 minutes and a couple of hours. Shoes and coats stay by the door. ---
