Is there a freeware/shareware program out there that will catalog and rename and retag my MP3 files for me? I know Musicmatch does it, but the version that came with my IPOD is out of date and I’m not going to buy the Plus version just for that function. What say you audiophile Dopers? ---

I’d look at [Musicbrainz](http://www.musicbrainz.org/). It’ll tag the individual files, unlike many products which will only do it as you rip the CD. It doesn’t give you Genres in it’s current state, but it’s open source, so you get to screw over the _man_. ---

I think you can upgrade your Musicmatch for free. It won’t be the Plus version, but it should work for your purposes. ---

It takes a little bit of effort to use it, but nowhere near as much as manually tagging them does. ---
