Not sure if this is a ‘legal’ question or not, so feel free to lock it if it isn’t allowed.

Just got a moto Q9M, and I want to take a DVD and turn it into whatever file format can be played by windows media, which is what is supported on this mobile toy. What type of program do I need to save the DVD as whatever file types to sync onto the phone? I am going to be stuck in hospital at least overnight and want some ‘comfort food’ viewing. I am pretty sure my Nero wont do it, it is pretty limited.

commercial DVDs are encrypted, so tools like [http://www.autogk.me.uk/](http://www.autogk.me.uk/) will not work on them. It will happily convert unecrypted DVD (in .vob format) into avi format. I suspect your phone likes mp4 or maybe wmv formats - there are lots of freeware/shareware conversion programmes out there - just google “DVD to wmv conversion”

You can always try [SUPER](http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html) which will covert anything to just about anything.

You may also try [AnyDVD](http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html) which will remove the encryption and region coding from the DVD.

DVD Shrink is free and it does a better job, IME.
