# Solid-state car radio repair?

The transistor radio thread reminded me: Is there anyplace in Western Washington (preferably Seattle or north) that repairs old car radios? I have a mid-'60s Blaupunkt that I’d like to get working, and when I’ve looked I’ve only seen installers.

Have you checked [_Hemmings Motor News_?](http://www.hemmings.com/) If there was any place that did it, they’d probably advertise there. You might have to settle for someone putting modern electronics in an old radio, however, as it might be difficult, if not impossible to find parts for the thing. I know that many restoration shops have said that when it comes to cars of the mid-to-late 70s and early 80s, if your electronics crap out and you can’t find a salvage or NOS unit, you’re SOL because nobody makes reproduction units.

Just for grins, I looked up the schematic for an arbitrary Blaupunkt radio from the '60s. I couldn’t find the two power transistors; all of the other transistors were discontinued but available in limited quantities.
I’d keep looking around. Fixing old electronics is sort of fun, and there has to be somebody in Seattle who does it as a hobby or as a sideline.
