Tom Wolfe. My favorite mainstream writer, in every interview I have ever seen/heard of him he has the kindest, friendliest and most gentlemanly manner. Though his writing may be relentlessly snarky, he seems to be an extremely likeable guy. I think he would _have_ to be, in order to get close to the thousands of different people he has interviewed and shadowed as part of his journalistic writing. If he turned out to be a prick, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy his writing in the same way. ---

Oliver Platt. He seems so nice. That opinion was reinforced when I saw him outside the theater of a play he was doing in NY and he gave me the nicest smile in return for my smile at him. ---

I would be surprised at this but I would be really shocked if Seth MacFarlane isn’t an opinionated a-hole who can’t have a good healthy “agree to disagree” argument. Now I love Seth’s work and I think he’s great at what he does, and I would love to have a beer with him and talk about things…but I would be surprised if he wasn’t a stubborn bull over his opinions and not take mine in stride. Kind of a weird scenario I know…but I would love to have a conversation with him and would be surprised if it would work ---

Aisha Tyler. She seems really cool and funny, not to mention drop-dead gorgeous, and I’ve had a couple of short back-and-forths with her on Facebook, so I like to believe she’s down-to-earth and accessible. I’d be bummed if I found out otherwise. ---

I try pretty hard to stay rational about celebrities. I tell myself, “You don’t really know these people. The ones you hate may be decent people and the ones you love may be jerks.” So, I’m rarely shocked or hurt when a celeb or politician I admire turns out to be a slimeball. But no matter how rational I try to be, there are still a few people I’d be very disappointed to hear bad things about. Ron Guidry is at the top of that list, right ahead of the late Harmon Killebrew. ---

He has held the door for me twice once at John’s Pizzeria and once at Ollie’s. His voice was the same but 100 decibels lower in volume. At Ollie’s he even insisted that we be seated first. So I can say that he seems to be just a very nice guy and that was in NY. Only half of my group recognized him either time so he certainly wasn’t drawing any attention to himself.
