Ugh, yes. I don’t have many friends who got obsessed with this, but one of my cousins did. She actually posted this long note ranting about it, and repeatedly opining that because Casey “got off” and no “justice was done,” that Caylee can never rest. REALLY? What kind of shitty God do you believe in? Frankly, it creeps me out when people put pictures of their OWN children as their profile pictures (no, really, you’re still a person! you haven’t been subsumed by your own larva, it’s okay!) putting someone else’s dead kid there is just over the top. Brrr. ---

Brrr. Heh, interestingly, I was playing a game on Facebook, and the profile pictures of others that I was playing against were also on the screen. My almost-nine-year-old daughter was watching me and was having just a grand old time with this: “Why is that one a kid? You said you have to be a teenager to be on Facebook!” (Note: I don’t actually know if there is a minimum FB age or what it is, but when she asked me one day if there was, I just pulled it out of my ass and made it sound believable like every dad in the history of daddom has done) “What the heck? That one’s a dog! You can’t be a dog to play these games! Hahaha!” ---

Brrr. Yup, not a fan of “my kid is my Facebook photo” (and definitely not a random person’s dead kid!). I have a hard time telling who’s who just by looking at some tiny low-res photo of a random toddler, which seems to change to the next one in their Favorites folder every other week. I nearly sent a friend request to some random stranger on Facebook - I was looking for a friend of mine who had about 8 namesakes on Facebook, and at least half of them used “this is my kid” pics instead. I thought I’d found him by the kid-pic (limited profile setting) until I looked closely and saw that the little girl in the picture had the wrong color eyes. :smack: ---

Not that this stops kids from making up older birthdays to join, mind you - sometimes with their parents’ permission. ---

I’ve said before that the “novelty” of the case (kid missing for a month before she reports, mom lies her ass off until confronted with evidence and continues to lie) gave it some extra attention, but I think the “cute little white girl” angle does give it a lot of publicity. I’m pretty sure that not too many people outside the Indiana/Chicago area know about [Christian Choate](http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/5294165-418/dad-stepmom-charged-with-murder-in-death-of-boy-found-under-concrete-slab-in-gary.html) for instance. Little girl possibly given too much chloroform by partying mommy = worst thing EVAR. Teenage boy starved, beaten, tortured, caged by father and stepmother, eventually murdered and buried in the backyard? Whatever. Not interesting enough for the mass media I guess, or poorly timed in that it came out during the Anthony trial hype. ---

ditto that. i have a tiny baby girl and I just can’ imagine. I never watched the trial, that just sounds super morbid… “how was that toddler killed?” wierd ---

Man, that’s whack. My facebook friends are all posting their engagement photos which makes me wanna barf. It’s so bad that even I thought we should do it in the next two weeks. Sort of “I hate that shit it’s so tacky…I bet _I_ could do a better job at that!..”. Urgh. I bet half will be divorced by 2020. ---

Group emotions are weird. Like when Osama Bin Laden died and everyone was posting about how happy they were. I just didn’t get it. I didn’t like the guy but I just didn’t feel anything, good or bad. I read one person here posting about weeping tears of joy. It was…odd. Or when Princess Di died. I couldn’t imagine that kind of connection to a total stranger. ---
