To date, I have slept through two major hurricanes. Hugo, when it when through Charlotte, and Beatrice, in Chapel Hill. Well, I would have slept through Beatrice, except my housemates woke me up after a tree fell on the house. ---

I sleep through earthquakes all the time. I’ve probably slept through hundreds more earthquakes than I’ve ever been aware of. That’s probably different, though. ---

My friend’s husband is with a search and rescue team that was sent to Louisiana. She told me tonight that her husband’s team was finding people sitting on rooftops who still REFUSED TO LEAVE, but wanted the team to go find them some food and bring it back to them. :rolleyes: ---

Stuck on a roof with no running water, sanitary facilities, etc. in the hot sun? Hmmm. Unless that’s some hardcore swamp rats he’s talking about. ---

Has anyone checked to see if the people who said God would protect them are still around? I heard there was only one house left standing in one neighborhood, I figured that must be where the guy lived who said God would protect him. ---

Hey, it’s not weird that someone would sleep thru a hurricane. When he was in college, my hubby slept through a transformer about 1000 yards from his house getting hit by lightning and blowing up!:eek: ---

AFAIK, getting the willing out of mandatory evacuation areas in the case of a wildfire here isn’t really an issue that comes up, unless someone’s disabled and has no one to help, or someone is already in a fire. During the last round of fires, the news had a segment on mandatory evacs. They showed the police yelling at a man to get out. The man was refusing, standing in front of his house with a garden hose (yeah, that’s going to help you, buddy). As I recall, you could see smoke in the background, so we do have some idiots out here too…🙂 ---

Well, I s’pose it depends upon what kind of folks these roof-dwellers are. I mean, I can see some hardy souls being willing to brave the elements for a few days or even a week, if they’re the type who are capable of surviving in a rustic environment, and they have water to drink, and shade from the sun. Some other folks, not so much. I found this [video](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQkksAVBezc) kind of tragic but as the guy himself says “Stupidest mistake I ever made” or words to that effect. Says he hopes they don’t have to spend the night with all the snakes on the roof (and I don’t blame him!). I think they probably did. ---
