I can understand how the OP does come across as conceited, yet as unremarkable as I am in appearance, I, too, occasionally suffer from random fucksticks approaching me and mistaking me for someone who gives a shit. One’s perception of one’s own attractiveness notwithstanding, there are always people out there looking for a mark. ---
