I am so going to hell for thinking about The Life of Brian

Not so funny when you are discussing the murder of children, and of other real people that we knew personally.

This is not just idle discussion of ancient history. You are dealing with people who experienced IRA atrocities as real life. It was not some romantic “war of independence”, but a vicious and sectarian murder campaign - the nature of which sparked off even more vicious murders and atrocities by Loyalists.

I know the family of one of the children killed when they bombed Mountbatten. As I say, the IRA knew there were children on board the boat before they detonated the bomb.

I knew a girl who was blown to bits in a pub. Not “security forces”, just a funny young girl out for a drink with her friends. She just picked the wrong pub.

I also met the parents of a young man shot in the back of the head while sitting on a tractor in the middle of a field. They lost their only son, killed by a sectarian IRA murderer.

I got the figures from Lost Lives, but I believe you’re correct as to the ultimate source.

My mistake, it was Pushkin who cited the CAIN statistics. The sources are different, but there is not huge variation in the figures. I would be very surprised if the Lost Lives figures didn’t also include the disappeared.
