What a pile of stupid mush. First, nobody suggests that “everyone should think like they do.” Secondly, on a given issue, arguing that someone should continue to think as they already do is pointless.
I mean, aren’t you, here and now, arguing that we should think like you do on this issue? If not, what are you arguing?

I doubt we’ll see another Chicago Democrat on the ballot again. Not that I have anything against Chicago, it just seems the chance of having another from the same state in the near future is pretty slim. But the current Chicago Dem turned out fairly well, it’s a shame he didn’t have a rational opposition.

Wow, that’s just a whole flood of nothing. All Cease and Desist orders and absolutely nothing specific to his grievances. How can anybody devote all their time and energy to tilt at windmills like that? A friend of mine went through something similar when he sued for custody of his son. His ex married a paranoid left-wing nut who sued at the drop of a hat. My friend hardly had to testify because the nutjob kept cutting his own throat in court. The poor kid had to go through some kind of hostage therapy, but now has his head on straight.

At another board I frequent, the resident lawyers began a thread entitled “The Lawyer Thread Where We Stop Ruining Other Threads.” After five months, it’s at 48 pages and running. I looked in there once and that was enough. I know we need people like that in a functioning society but a lot of them really shouldn’t be allowed to run loose in normal life.

I think legal discussions are fine where they are relevant. They are pretty much never relevant if people are just discussing what they think the moral thing is to do, or if people are discussing what they think the law should be. There are exceptions, but they are exceptions, not the norm.
And people who use the Socratic method should be dropped on their heads again.\*
\*It’s like sitcom amnesia. A second knock will return them to normal.

No, I’m not. I’m saying that people are bullies for the tactics that they have employed. Argue for your position or resort to name-calling because you can’t think of anything useful to add. Keep up the good works.

I searched that (out of idle curiosity). The first couple of pages, at least, are entertaining enough. And you have to give them credit for participating at all, given that title; it shows a commendable degree of self-awareness.

I know! I know!
235 Wisner St, Park Ridge, IL Which, I will have you know, is a whole two and a half (short) blocks from Chicago. Sure, she was born in Chicago, but as a Northwest Suburbanite whose stomping grounds once included Park Ridge, I can say she’s one of us, not one of them.

I voted for Obama in 2008.
And I stand by that vote. Given the alternative, he was the better candidate.

Indeed, I should have pointed that out myself. Many of the lawyers who frequent that board are among the most personable of posters. While they understandably get dragged into the occasional bout of Brickernitting in a thread, they mostly save it for their own thread these days. Big ups to them for that.
