Some very non-Pitting questions for Bricker

Now, to substance:

I’m not in favor of unchecked immigration. How about anyone else here? Or is this a strawman?

Again, an extremely inaccurate description of my position. Anyone else here “unwilling to use military force, or to use such force only when civilian casualties and American military deaths are near zero” or is this another strawman?

Don’t you mean, an unwillingness to support Israel in maintaining their occupation and stranglehold on the West Bank, and their blockade of Gaza, and an unwillingness to support them every time they decide they want to kill a thousand Palestinians in response to an Israeli death?

Nah, I’m good with supporting Israel’s right to be where they are, minus the West Bank occupation and the Gaza blockade. Much as a part of me would like to invite Israel to relocate itself to west Texas. Strawman again, at least as it applies to me. Can’t speak for my fellow Dopers.

Ain’t nothing to say to this but to  in a major way. Is there a ‘Fox’ key on your keyboard that spits out stuff like this as a macro?

Yes, that’s debatable.

Not just that, but imagine the potential for someone to say they are being stalked or harassed or otherwise persecuted after they’ve already made their contempt and disdain clear.

If liberals were put in charge we’d be similar to the Netherlands. (Oh noes!!1)

If conservatives were put in charge we’d be in the Mad Max version of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Why not?

What moral principle allows you to restrict entry into this country to needy people, merely because of an accident of their birth?

ETA: Oops, missed 10 minutes of posts.

Yes, yes. Liberals = good and Conservatives = bad. I’ve got it.

I feel the same way about Chicago. One-party rule. They’ve long lost the ability to rule by compromise or even consider a compromise. Why anyone would vote for a Chicago politician is beyond me.

Kinda depends. “Jesus loves all the little children of the world”? Cool.

“The King is the King because that’s the way God wants it”? Not so much.

Is there a single national politician who would remove US support from Israel? Who is calling for unchecked immigration?

Bricker’s definition of the Left must be very narrow indeed. Like six guys in Nader t-shirts in Vermont.

What a fever swamp.

Well, Rand Paul was, at one point. He later clarified his position.

They compromise all the time with different factions of the Democratic Party. It’s part of governing. Or used to be.

Is doorhinge Bricker’s new sidekick/bodyguard?

Here is a short video of them together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVNHcob3oJg

Now that you’ve taken both sides of this argument, maybe I should step aside while you have it out with yourself. Let me know who wins.

Actually, since we’ve had one-party rule the budget is in surplus and passed on time, housing prices are skyrocketing, and unemployment is falling. The horror.

While I agree that in general one party rule is bad, might I note that one party tries to disenfranchise those likely to vote against it and redistricts to keep a majority. And it ain’t the Democrats.

Why is it that you are unable to come out and say what your position on immigration is?

You opened another thread that went five pages recently that was about immigration, yet you managed to never stake out your position.

The closest you got was this:

This isn’t exactly black and white being in favor of open borders, but since you refuse to clarify, it’s basically the same thing.

That’s the thing about many policies favored by Democrats. They can’t admit it, because they know it sounds crazy to most normal people. They just do it.

You’re not in favor of unrestricted immigration. You just think that every kid from south of the border that manages to hop a train and make it up here should stay.

The problem is that those are basically the same thing.

(I think it’s still too long  )

Are you represented by the bulldog?

If there’s a need, I’ll do so. In this thread, the main thing I wanted to say was that of course I’m against unrestricted immigration. If we had open borders, we’d surely get far more immigrants than we could handle.

IMHO, it was about children. (I’ve never ‘gotten’ why “won’t someone think of the children?” is a Bad Thing, if in fact it’s an issue that affects children in a major way.)

I don’t recall being asked to clarify. But I think we have the resources to help out the 70,000 unaccompanied children that have shown up in the past year in whatever manner is most appropriate, without breaking a sweat.

There. That’s all you need to know about my position on immigration, for that thread and this one. I’m not running for office, I’m not going to put out a White Paper on every issue under the sun.
