Following this “the weather proves God’s will” logic, then President-elect Obama really _is_ the Messiah. Just think of that supernaturally good weather he had (In Chicago! In November!) during his acceptance speech! Isn’t there a passage in the NT where Jesus declares that natural disasters are no indication of God’s will or judgment? I swear I read it during my Bible as Lit class, but can’t remember where it was now. ---

So if God wants to protect Israel, why is he sending the hurricanes to the US, and not to the Arabs threatening them? Why not dry up the oil wells that give the Arabs such a hold over the rest of the world? I’m sure all the people who’s homes have been hit by tornadoes/hurricanes will love the implication that if they had prayed hard enough - like the farmer in the story - their homes would have been miracously spared. Also, isn’t the praying farmer a bit too sure that God will spare his farm simply because of the prayer? What about the bit in the Bible about letting God’s will happen, not your own (and that God’s ways are ineffable to man)? ---

You mean if a tornado or hurricane is heading my way, all I have to do is pray and it will go around me? It’s so simple, why didn’t I see it before? Shouldn’t we hand out some Chick Tracts in all the trailer parks and bayous? ---

Damn, I haven’t looked at one of these things in over 20 years. I think they are crazier now. Is Chick the only one that does these or does he have competition? I recall one that I think was a Chick Track from the late 80s that condemned Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. BTW: The writer is a Simpson’s fan? I swear that was Nelson Munce playing the Giant. ---

Also, I strongly suspect – not believe, but **suspect** – that certain high-ranking officials (i.e. Dick Cheney, maybe one or two others) knew _exactly_ what was going down, and they _allowed it to happen_ because they knew they would profit greatly from it (Halliburton, anyone?) in addition to forcing fear-based anti-freedom laws upon America. (Yes…I’m convinced Dick Cheney is that EVIL. I’m not saying he’s responsive, I’m just saying he _could_ have been responsible. It’s within the realm of possibility.) The current global economic crisis speaks for itself – indeed, this current crisis is basically a “Financial 9/11”, which had the potential to destroy the foundations of our very civilization. What’s happening in the stock market and the banking system RIGHT NOW is a far greater disaster than 9/11, Katrina, and the Metrolink crash combined…and the Republican Conservatives (up to and including GWB) are _entirely_ responsible for this one!
