Which part was that, when I said Clinton pounded Trump or that he was inarticulate and unprepared?

> [@WillFarnaby](#):
>
> In the beginning of the debate, Trump ate Clinton alive for what seemed like a good 10-20 minutes mostly on trade policy.
>
> Then Holt lobbed several steel chairs into the ring and Clinton pounded Trump for an hour, completely on his personal history, notably his tax returns, birtherism, business dealings, and for judging a beauty queen on her looks. Trump was visibly unprepared and pulled way too many punches, and the punches he did throw were awkwardly articulated.
>
> The crowd was childish and if they aren’t on the Clinton Foundation dole now, they expect to be in the Clinton administration. The Trumpers were audibly irritated by this and responded a few times by cheering for Trump.
>
> It appears that Clinton had much more to lose in this debate, because of the recent trends in the polls, so she played all of her cards. She had to, and it appears to have worked. Trump was unprepared and showed genuine emotion. Something no candidate has done in my lifetime, so I am not sure how viewers will respond. He needs to attack in subsequent debates, because he is simply not good at defending himself. Indeed several of his transgressions are not defendable in today’s political climate. Trump needs to hammer her on the trade issue. Hammer her on the money that has been wasted on wars that she loves. This was a good theme that he brought up. We have 20 trillion in debt and nothing to show for it. He needs to flesh out this theme and hammer her with it.
>
> Hopefully next debate will not be so boring.

That certainly is an interesting and unusual perspective.

Had Trump released his tax returns, not been the king of the birthers, not stiffed people he owed money to, and not been a chauvinist pig, Hillary wouldn’t have hit him on these things.

If Trump pulled any punches, he can certainly try next time. It won’t help him, but he can try.

Hillary has by no means played all of her cards. The Trump Foundation scandal was not mentioned at all. She has plenty more up her sleeve.

I agree that Trump was unprepared. I disagree that he showed genuine emotion or that he is capable of having genuine emotions.

The Clinton Foundation doesn’t have people on the dole, they help people around the world. The Trump Foundation exists to pay off Trump’s legal troubles with other people’s money.

It’s kind of hard to hammer Hillary on the war when Trump initially favored it. It’s hard to hammer her on the national debt when Bush created so much of it and Trump wants to supersize it with insane tax cuts.

Ok I was summarizing what happened in the debate. Do you dispute this account of the events?

It most certainly will help him. You think it would help him to remain stiff as he is assaulted?

He showed anger and frustration. I watched on TV, not transistor radio.

No it’s not. Not for a politician. Clinton literally said “everyone should respect the law”, and claimed to not support the TPP. Politicians can say whatever they want.

Job 1 for Trump the other night was to keep his composure for 90 minutes.

Knowing that, and knowing how important it was to do so, he still failed. Hell, he could barely manage 20 minutes.

He didn’t just fail a test to be President. He failed a requirement of being competent adult.

No: Trump just said that she’d stayed home while he was out campaigning. He’s pretty incoherent, but there was an implication there that she was irresponsible or something in staying home to prep for a debate instead of going out to have rallies and stuff.

WillFarnaby, “whoosh” is an expression to describe when someone takes something seriously that was intended as a joke. I suppose maybe you were joking with that entire post, which would be less embarrassing for you–but please don’t think I was taking it seriously.

Chelsea Clinton, otoh, says that the Donald keep bringings up her Dad’s infidelity because he’s incapable of speaking about anything substantive.

> **[Chelsea Clinton: Trump Brings Up Bill's Infidelity Because He Can't Talk...](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/chelsea-clinton-donald-trump_n_57ebc912e4b0c2407cda9c23?section=)**

In summation, the Clintons are even winning the post-debate kiddie table. Also, Eric Trump remains a smarmy little git.

That’s the Eric Trump [whose father left when he was seven](http://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2068227_2068229_2068248,00.html)?

> For all his success in the boardroom, Donald Trump’s life in the bedroom has been messy at best. The real estate magnate married his first wife, Ivana, in 1977, but things got rocky after Trump’s affair with actress Marla Maples surfaced in New York City tabloids. “You bitch, leave my husband alone!” Ivana (pictured) told Maples on a ski trip in Aspen, Colo. Ivana’s warning fell on deaf ears, and in 1992, Trump left her with a reported $25 million settlement and married his mistress one year later. His marriage to Maples was even shorter-lived, and the couple divorced in 1999. These days, Trump’s married to Slovenian supermodel Melania Knauss. Together in marital bliss since 2005, this relationship’s proving the third time really is a charm — so far anyway.

Let the candidates compare their marital histories! (Is Eric hoping to see his old man punished?)
