Another possibility is DNS cache poisoning. This allows an attacker to redirect domain names to his own server. You type in “http://ebay.com” and end up connected to some hacked server in China, complete with an eBay simulation that steals passwords. That’s a reason to verify that you have a secure connection (https) before you enter a password.
Dude, the Internet has caused you nothing but trouble judging from the endless stream of complaints, laments, thefts, etc… With that in mind, may I suggest disconnecting for a while and rocking it like it’s 1990? That way we’ll both have peace of mind.
Sorta, they get sold, just like stolen CC#'s.
Erm … no one else is curious as to why Mormonism is protection against keyloggers?
I had a problem about 6 months ago with e-bay. Someone used my account and basically posted spam and got me kicked off. The only way I can think of that they got my account was that I used the same user name and password at another site that got hacked about 1.5 years ago. So doof me for not changing all my names and passwords, but, damn, I have sooooo many to remember I just let it go.
After the e-bay thing you can bet I changed em all. Luckily my e-bay and paypal were not the same.
Good luck Lobsang.
There is a rich and thriving black market in stolen/disposable/bulk-generated accounts online. They are an organized ecosystem of network-unfriendly niches. They can be very good at what they do. But, they can be thwarted. I’ve (knock on wood) not had personal issues with online fraud. I’ve seen metric assloads of them professionally.
I have been a victim of Identity Theft, however. Good old-fashioned break into my house and steal an old outdated checkbook from for an active account (plus my tv, my bike, my playstation, etc…) and write forged checks to the tune of $500+.
Heh heh … where did this come from?
I think he means Amish, but I could be wrong. :dubious:

I think he means Amish, but I could be wrong. :dubious:
Ah, yes, now that I would understand, given his “I just got screwed over by technology” experience.
That’s right, I meant Amish. :smack:
