# Something about Mythbusters I find annoying

I only recently started to watch the show, and yes sometimes I DO miss living under that rock. Anyway, so what annoys me is how they talk to each other but not the _camera_. When they sit and discuss a myth, and Ginger talks to Moustache-dude as if he’s informing him, and then Mustachehead jumps in with some more facts so he clearly knew the whole thing and was just sitting there nodding and pretending to be interested and really just being a bad actor… why not just talk to the fucking camera? You’re explaining this for MY benefit as a viewer, so talk to ME. And the rest of the time there’s the never-heard never-seen interviewer or whoever it is they’re talking to off to the side of the camera.
Talk to _me_, m’kay? And someone buy the young lady a T-shirt that fits.

I’d find that show much less annoying if she’d just dispense with the t-shirt altogether.

Something? Their personalities, all three of them, are so jarring and annoying that I won’t watch the show. It’s a pity because I like the premise but could they have picked more irritating people to do the talking?
And how come the guys get eye candy and we get those two…males?

I get what you mean about the main hosts, but are the two guys who hang with Tits McGee not kind of cute? My Straight Eye doesn’t register attractive in males very well, so serious question.

Speaking as a straight male, I find all three of the Build Team to be reasonably attractive. Crazy Guy and Walrus Face don’t need to be eye candy.
The exposition delivery annoys the hell out of me, too. It’s so painfully contrived and they’re just not good at it.

Regarding the fake interview bit, when the on camera personality looks askance to an unseen/unheard interviewer, that’s hardly contained to Mythbusters. It’s all over the place from news shows to commercials. I think it should be banned, along with the use of jump cuts (like the fight scenes in The Dark Knight) and shaky camera use.
I’ll defend Mythbusters though on the principle they’re promoting science in a world that glorifies crap on TV, even though they perform experiments that are completely unncessary. For instance, I find it hard to believe they were needed to test steel toed boots to see if your toes would be chopped off, or what level of firepower is needed to shoot through a padlock. I would think at the least, the companies making the products would test them, and there just might be government standards in the case of the boots (possibly OSHA regulations).
But it’s good TV, by god!

I don’t remember them…pics? Are those different from those hairy guys that run the show? Honestly like I said I haven’t watched it much because they are so abrasive (to me).

It’s not that there aren’t tests done elsewhere, it’s that the public 1) doesn’t _see_ them performed, and 2) may otherwise be inclined to believe the myth about steel-toes boot being more dangerous than plain boots.
Oh, and Jamie can’t act worth a damn, and the writing for the exposition bits is horrid to boot. Thankfully I watch it off my DVR so I can skip most of that part. The excessively-long recaps coming back from commercial also bugs.

Agreed, I preferred the first season style of the show better where pretty much nothing was staged. You were just sitting in on them trying to figure stuff out instead of getting an after-it-all-happened recreation of events. Perhaps it’s more hassle for the editing team to compress the conversations into something we can hear in time, but that’s what they’re getting paid for.
A lot of this stuff on the show is simply so the producers can call themselves “producers”.
A much worse example of this is **The Dog Whisperer** , where they would randomly choose a theme for each segment and do all the fonts, music, and editing to target that theme (like “cowboy” theme.) It had nothing to do with the show and was frankly stupid on all levels.

It’s not a bad show, but I really do wish that they’d dispense with “Tits McGee” (heh) and friends entirely. They’re irritating, abrasively so, and their presence is unnecessary except to render eye candy upon males and (I suppose) rather undiscerning women.
Yes, yes, she’s cute enough, I guess. But I see uncountably many cuter girls just walking around campus every day. Giving her hardware (which she’s clearly not very competent with) somehow makes her sexier to some men, but I don’t get it.

It was quite prevelant. I had a freind who worked for a large warehouse-type hardware store, and none of the staff wore 'em due to that UL.

My problem is that the often redefine the problem into proving something with only a tenuous relation to the actual question, prove or disprove that, and then claim they’ve disproved the original question.
Sort of like “we have to substitute a wooden board for a steel plate, but the results should be equivalent.”

I do rather get the feeling that outside of Grant, the other two in the build team could pretty much be anyone. The best example is where Tori and Kary are left to themselves to do the small scale test of the 20,000 foot drop into the exploding train station. Since both of them are essentially just artists with no (apparent) mechanical or electrical knowledge, they couldn’t set up any sort of rig to do the testing to try and figure out if there’s a key time at which they could accomplish something. And they’re dropping a frickin lead ball from three or four feet. That’s got some pretty serious inertia in comparison to a airbag system’s explosive force. They should have done some sort of at least vague math to try and use an equivalent weight of the item being dropped to the force of the explosion. I doubt this idea ever even occurred to them, let alone whether they’d have any chance at running the math.
I’d say that much more than Jamie’s rather poor acting, it annoys me when they put Tori up to explain what they’re doing. Jamie is at least saying something he understands.
