Damn. I was all set to order up a $15 E01, but then I saw the $46 Fenix L0D. 11 lumens for 8.5 hours, 30 lumens for 3.5 hours, or 75 lumens for an hour! :eek:

Now I’m not getting either because, while I can’t justify $46 for a light, I also don’t want to get the cheaper one knowing that there’s something out there that can blow it out of the water!

Hmm. Looks like it uses a CREE 7090 XR-E LED. I think I’ll just buy a couple of those ($5 each) and play around with them instead.

The L0D is a great light, but it needs to be run on rechargables (Low-Self-Discharge Nickel Metal Hydride) as it tears through alkaline cells like crazy, alkies also sag badly under load, wheras NiMH don’t, a NiMH may only deliver 1.2V, but it delivers it consistently for the life of the cell, an alkie’s internal resistance starts dropping output from the point you turn it on

oh, and someone else on CPF did a runtime test on an E01 with an alkie, and got 36 hours of light before they stopped the test…

if you want a long-running emergency light, the E01 is great, the L0D is a great general purpose light though

It’s 4100 lumens, yes kids, that’s right, four thousand one hundred lumens of night-into-day power that you hold in your hand and that can fit in a glove compartment. The thing is so powerful it can be used to cook an egg or start a campfire. I want it.

Here’s my typical EDC loadout;

Right side belt holster; SureFire A2 Aviator
RF pocket; Spyderco Delica 4 Wave clipped to pocket, Novatac EDC-120P
LF pocket; car keys, Brass “Armor” Zippo, Spyderco (choice of the day, it varies,today it’s the Native) clipped to pocket
Left side belt holster; Leatherman Surge multitool, Fenix L1T 2.0
RR pocket; Rotring 600 Rollerball pen

thankfully, most of these items are small, the only obvious stuff I’m carrying are the A2 and the stuff in my left side holster

this is actually trimmed down a good deal from previous EDC loadouts, I’m a tech, and I like gadgets, so I bring a good amount of gadgets with me, the Leatherman and Spydercos have a fun “fidget factor” to them, the flashlights I use to illuminate the darkened inside of computer cases and to check for bad backlighting tubes in LCD displays

I’ve got a little of the flashlight bug myself. OK, I’m a full-blown addict. I’m always on the lookout for the newest, latest and greatest in illumination technology. I’m hoping at some point in the future to add this to my now mag-light free collection…
